Is there any way to unsocket an item?
to dismiss a hireling?
The only way is a Horadric Cube recipe. 1 Hel rune and one Town Portal scroll, put together in the cube with the socketed item, will remove whatever is socketed in the item. Note that it will destroy those gems/runes/jewels that were socketed.
There is no direct way to dismiss a hireling, but they can be overridden by any new one you hire. If you want to get rid of the hireling altogether, you can let him/her die and just not resurrect him.
