I was checking the new skill videos and happened across evasive fire. I'm confused, isn't evasive fire the perfect skill to use as your primary attack?

Depends, I've never really liked the skill, so maybe my opinion is biased. Hungering Arrow deals more damage and the backflips might get annoying sometimes. Up to the player i guess!
that's the beauty of this game, each skill seems to be perfect and work well (in theory, still need to balance damages)
if you like evasive fire you can use it and not be gimped. but on a personal opinion level I agree with Reflexii.
of all the generators I think Evasive fire is near the bottom of ones I'd consider using in any build really. PvP being the exception.
It really depends on what kind of rune we are talking about and if itīs Aoe or not. Evasive seems to be more orientated towards Aoe and mobility, whereas HA is more a single target dps skill. Thatīs where the pierce at lest does itīs magic.
Evasive fire is a tactical skill I think, because if you combine it with the passive tactical advantage your movement speed is also increased by 60% for 2 secs, after you back flip.
Itīs also a skill that allows you to do more constant dps in dangerous situations, as you just back flip and continue to shoot at monsters, whereas with another skill like HA, you would need to flee or move to another advantage point and thus not doing any dmg, while thatīs happening.
If we take i.e. the evasive skill(covering fire) which reminds me of a shotgun :d, it does seem really cool, since it can hit up to 3 targets for 125% instant WD, which equals to 375% potential WD!. I can see this being used a lot in Pve.
Another really interesting rune skill is EF(displace) which increases the back flip to 30 yards, that could be very useful in pvp. Who knows weīll have to try it out for ourselves I guess, but EF is definitely a skill that sounds interesting and has a lot of utility but is just overshadowed by hungering arrow.

My reason for disliking evasive fire is entiely superficial: I don't like the graphic and sounds fx. It sounds and looks like a gunshot, and reminds me of starcraft or something other than D3, but whatever. As for the skill, I do find it odd that Blizzard didn't group it with the other primary skills. I haven't seen what covering fire looks like in a video but it's true it does sound really good on the tooltip.
The thing with evasive fire's backflip, is you have to watch your position and which monster you're targeting, so as to not waste a backflip, which costs discipline. That makes the skill interesting. Personally, I'll probably use entangling shot instead of evasive if I need a generator that can stall enemies. For pure damage, hungering arrow or bola shot are the ones to choose from.
I've used it. The backflip is a piss off when you don't want it happening, which is basically all the time.
I am really warming up to EF as a second generator when they close in, with the distance rune it's just about a linear vault for half the cost and some hatred gen. And HA when far away with vault and caltrops for further movement and snare baiting. And some good bang for the buck with the movement passive as it effects both. Sound is crap as mentioned, I mean with a bow it just seems.. crazy like BANG. No, a bow goes fwoop. <<--- just like that.
