    "Loot Scanner"

Guy has been posting progress on this "loot scanner" since October.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C57n4cG68SA

This one is still using the emulator just as all the others have, but he states it works on battle.net

I guess this isn't a huge deal since drops aren't shared, but thought you all would find this interesting.

Edit: Now I see he's also got a video about making models glow from back in October - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjogjtiO6Oo - Which probably doesn't work in bnet but if the other does... Then well if this is developed further I can imagine hardcore/inferno/pvp players getting an edge by using this to light up problematic monsters.

Debated on whether or not to post this or just report it to Blizzard. It's already on youtube anyway and I there's no evidence of it working on battle.net except the guy stating it does...so I did report it but just went ahead an posted it.

    Re: "Loot Scanner"

I'm not concerned about these mods at all.

The monster silhouettes are easily distinguishable, so I don't need the glow to see what's dangerous.

As for the loot scanner popups, they are completely unnecessary. It may be of help with the emulator, where monsters drop tons of loot at the moment, but on the official servers I think that won't happen very often and most of the time you can just glance over your screen in just a fraction of a second and see what dropped.

I also think that these mods can work with strictly client-side data and require no interaction with the server, so they probably really do work on B.net.

Nice, but it needs to show rare+ gear drops. Health globes pop out very well, as intended. He doesn't need a scanner to show them.

I wonder if they managed to make it work on fullscreen mode because I haven't. If so I'd really like to get the base source code, that way I could finish my "MODs".

Useless screen cluttering if you ask me. Really not needed with individual loot, too. The time it takes you to look at the upper part of your screen, you could just look at the drop. The health globes for example stand out way enough.

    Re: "Loot Scanner"

Instead of a loot scanner, why not work on a loot pickup program that lets you choose which type of loot you want to pick up and which you do not want...

    Re: "Loot Scanner"

This "Loot Scanner" is only the basic. It's not like he made that program and then completely stopped updating it. This could be used for many neat features. He could add options to let you choose which items / kind you want to see pop up. I don't think he'll be able to automatically pickup the items though.

It was possible in D2, why not D3? It keeps the movement in the game and I do not think Blizzard would mind that as it ultimately would lead to more Auction house sales

Because he stated that he does't modify any game files, which more or less implies he is only reading information. I'm not saying it will never be possible to do it, it's just not likely to happen with this particular program.

    Re: "Loot Scanner"

Seems like a lot of work if you just have to hold ALT down to go find the loot to pick up anyway... Cool idea though.
