Would you play if it worked like this? As an additional twist, it could be salaried by sponsors interested in seeing people live and die on the edge

Now hardcore D2 is one of the few games to really get my adrenaline rushing.. but if it was hardcore real life, the pump would have to be extreme. The meticulous preparation and analysis of situations, the frightening shivers when a realm-wide message of someone having died appears and glory of seeing someone make it through inferno. Where life is scarce, like in the past with family members often dying.

It would make one cherish what one has in the game world that could so easily disappear for good. For once computer games would be redeemed and accepted as a true extreme sport, not an awkward geek.

In today's safety obsessed world its only a dream but i cant help but itch at the thought - i think i would give it a try. cant hurt, right?

You just need to find some unscrupulous person and hire him to watch you play Diablo 3 and shoot you if your character should die. Bonus, you don't even have to do it in hardcore mode, because it's not like you will be playing the character again. So you can start "Hardcore Mode" at level 1.
