Title pretty much sums it up. When patch 13 came out gold spiked for a bit but after a week went down to its usual 1$ per 1000.
Now its $ 6-6.50 per 1000...wtf?!
Did a new wave of keys go out? Am i missing something, what the hell happen?
Here is what ive noticed so far, feel free to correct me because im probably wrong.
It seems people are using the RMAH for only gold selling/buying and using the GAH for items.
Rare items such as Magic/gold Find Amus or Gold find helms are all(like 90%) in the GAH.
I'm at Beta Bucks cap...again....so i have to spend it or else i don't get BBs for sells because it goes over cap.
Looking at Gold as of right now its at $5 per 1k...insane, am i going to buy gold just because im at cap HELL NO! I was actually looking for a GF amu to buy, hell ill shell out 300-400BBs for a amu, but i cant...there in the GAH for 600k...retarded amounts. And i cant get them because im a gold seller.....once i rack up 10-30k gold i cant help but sell it at these fun prices.
Soooo....this? maybe?
Good items in the GAH drive up gold prices DRAMATICALLY -Why?
-Because people will buy gold to buy the items that cost......you guessed it...gold!
Good items in the RMAH drive gold prices back down to 1$ -Why?
-Because people well sell gold to gain money for items in the RMAH, making the price for gold drop because there's more selling then buying going on.
How are these related? How can we use this to our advantage?
Im not going into great detail, ill just give examples...
First lets say gold prices are high, meaning people are making a killing off gold atm. A big portion of the population will not have pay-pal cash out features meaning the money gained will go back into circulation. So they have to spend it, well this is good for us because it just so happens we have a nice item to sell(hopefully).
So we place the Item in the RMAH for a high amount, those with deep pockets off the gold selling might take interest.
Second lets say that the GAH has become stagnate, Gold is back at 1$ per 1k, and all the good items are in the RMAH. This means that the chances of someone buying gold with their hard earned Battle.net balance will go up dramatically.
So we place a item in the GAH for a High amount, this drives up the price of gold, which you just made a killing on, just for all that gold to go back in the RMAH for 2.5$ per 1k instead of 1$
I wish i had more time to look through all of it, i wrote this at first glace of the current AH situation.
Interesting observation.
This is a very good point and something I've been thinking about for a while.
I have also noticed in beta the insane greed that people on the GAH are showing listing things for 500,000 gold !
But ... As abidtextria said, this is only a good thing for selling gold on the RMAH as it will keep a good £/$ - 1000 rate as gold will be needed to pay the insane prices people will ask in gold.
Also as abidextria stated a large % of the player base will not have access to the RMAH i.e "kids/people without bank accounts" will only have one place to shop with there in game gold and will be willing to spend 100's of thousands on a great item, as the gold has no real value to them as they can't sell it. Also these non RMAH players will be finding great items and listing them for insane amounts of gold as they cant sell the item on the RMAH.
I do hope the GAH is full of top items for 1,000,000 gold or more each. High prices keep the $ per 1000 price a profitable one. People will soon start buying gold if the stuff they want is only listed in the GAH
Do not under estimate the GAH, I'm sure it will have more epic items than the RMAH because of the huge amount of kids without paypal and a bank account playing the game.
1) It's only a closed beta
2) Lack of proper gold sinks, it's already been confirmed item repair will be hideously high
1) Kids will be able to participate in the RMAH. They will have their earnings in BB. Since there isn't an up front listing fee having a linked PayPal account isn't required. It is only required if you want to cash out.
2) In the Beta BB don't have any value, while gold on the other hand has value, ie Crafting.
3) People behave differently when real money isn't involved. Its like playing poker with toothpicks vs. money. The minute even a nickle ($0.05) is involved people bet completely different.
4) It is a Beta with limited content. The gold sinks are not truly in effect yet. Since any character Lv9+ has out leveled the content the risk is almost, Stupidity aside, completely removed. The biggest gold sink in the game, the drive to get better equipment, isn't required because the challenge isn't increasing.
I agree, kids will be able to have there blizzard bucks, but how many blizzard T shirts or pens can one person buy. I think kids will pay way over the going rate for items on the RMAH with there blizz bucks as the money has no real value to them, when you can cash out the money it does make you think twice about the purchase price of an item as its real money.
Its going to be intresting to see how all this plays out on release.
