Some questions from a "veteran" player

Hello guys! I'm thinking of coming back to d2 after several years. Could you answer some of my questions please?
1) Do ppl still play on bnet or I'm going to be alone? :P
2) What is the best class to remember how to play a bit? Please dont tell me about barb/pala cuz i dont like them at all xD
Also if you can tell me some tips or give me a link to a guide on how to lvl up fast

2) The Fishymancer (guide) is forgiving, not gear dependent at all, powerful, and fun.

Yes I would advise the Necromancer/summoner (a.k.a fishymancer) as well if you have to restart from scratch, because it's very gear-independant. You can even shop for nice wands with +raise skeleton and skeleton mastery from the very start of the game (see Akara).
