I am not sure how the male wizard squeezes your hand, more like with some Electricity attached. His "wuss" like does not speak for the magic he wields. I think he's being judged totally wrong here.

    "Wuss"
A person who is physically weak and ineffectual. Often a male person with low courage factor.
    Male wizard:
    Physically weak? No.
    Ineffectual? No.
    Low Courage? No.

I have no idea what you're getting at. Is this supposed to be flamebait?

Everyone judges the aesthetics of classes, monsters, NPCs, etc., in video games. Are you implying that I'm prejudiced and judgmental because I think a character class in a video game looks stupid?

Is there such a thing as classic female insecurity, or does this only apply to men? Are we going to start bashing masculinity now?

And, again, is this more flamebait? I think the wizard looks like a nancy boy and that somehow means I'm insecure? It couldn't be that I'd rather play a powerful and cool looking character rather than a weak-looking character, in a video game that is about entertainment?

If a female player came onto this forum and expressed the opinion that she thought the female barbarian was too ugly or masculine, would you say, "This is classic female insecurity and anti-masculinism."

I think you two need to check your heads.

the type of people that give you too firm of a handshake to prove to you that they are a man. You know, the ones that squeeze a bit too hard and hold it for a bit too long.
    Are you personally attacking me?

Ironically, the fact that you're getting so bent out of shape while resorting to pseudo-psychology and personal attacks to defend this limp-wristed class seems to demonstrate a degree of insecurity on your end.

Perhaps you identify with the limp-wristed male Wizard, and so you feel threatened when I attack him.

His "wuss" like does not speak for the magic he wields. I think he's being judged totally wrong here.
We're talking about a video game here though. Keyword... video. It's visual. And the wizard... looks... wussy. I don't know what's in his heart and mind. I'm sure the wizard character is very brave considering what he does. However, he looks stupid. He looks like a wuss. His spells don't look so bad. But he himself looks like a wimp.

Here's another keyword: look. The wizard looks like a wuss... in a video (visual) game. That's not a good thing.

To really drive this point home, the Sorceress from Diablo 2 and the Sorcerer from Diablo 1 didn't look like wussies.

I'll play male barb and witch doctor, female wizard and demon hunter. I haven't decided on monk - male monk doesn't look emo at least, but he also doesn't look much like a monk. To my mind a monk ought not have any hair (on his head or his face).
Oooh. You better watch out. People might think you're homophobic, anti-feminism, judgmental, or insecure. You're not allowed to have the opinion that "emo-looking" or "wussy-looking" characters are uncool.

MattYPie, no flamebait. Just observation. In fact i do just the same, but my views are different. Calm down, i am just teasing!.

Yes the looks might not be so appealing. I just think the whole package speaks for itself and looks are not everything after all. Choosing what character you play, because he/she apeals to you is important in a game.

If you want to be a Wizard you have two choices, a little girly man or a teenage girl that sounds like she should be on MTVs My Sweet 16.

I think you may be reading a little (a lot) too much into aesthetics there, mate. Aesthetics are subjective, if you don't mind the male Wizard's look, that's fine for you.

My dislike for emo stems from my real life experiences with (obnoxious) emo people, plus my dislike of emo music. Why would I want to play a character that reminds me of things I dislike? These sorts of associative emotional responses are hard-wired into all humans.

If I were overly concerned with masculinity, I'd hardly be willing to play a female character instead of a wussy looking male one, no?

I just think it's funny that people would complain about a wizards masculinity in a video game. Wizards are supposed to look frail and quirky, that's why they use spells and not whack things with a stick.

Same goes for people who say they would rather stare at a female characters behind instead of a dudes while they play. Except those guys find it hard to make eye contact with other dudes.

(Broad generalizations are fun, you should try them sometime )

He doesn't need to look buff, he just needs to not look like a douche bag.

I dunno, the barbarian looks more like a douche bag to me.

He probably watches MMA, and takes whey protein powder 8 times a day.

All he needs is a Tapout shirt to complete the look.

Re: So... why does the male wizard look like a wuss?

You know, I think aesthetics are important. For me, it's not so much visual appearance as it is vocals. Even though in Diablo there isn't much voice acting but I am a little bit concerned over the female wizard voice. I haven't played the beta, I've just listened to some clips, but if need be, I'll play the male. I'll probably play both actually. I can stomach some wussiness as long as the voice isn't too bad. I have to draw the line at squealing though.

    by the way, MMA???
