I wouldn't say the i3 is mediocre, it's actually very good for the price. Pick any one from the 2nd generation (SandyBridge) platform, so 2310M or 2330M or 2350M or 2367M, etc.
Hum... wait the 2367M is only 1.4Ghz... ok let's say 2.0Ghz and above.
Most of the time, if they put a decent GPU in there, they will also use a decent CPU with it, that won't bottleneck the PC.
This one would fit your initial request : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834215193
You'd be able to play at least on Low/medium.

Thanks for the link. I looked at this stuff for a while yesterday, and they all started to look the same to me!
I've not ordered anything from newegg, would you recommend them or tigerdirect? Same comp is $20 cheaper at tiger...
Oh wait wait wait, just noticed that this laptop has Optimus technology. I remember this was not working properly with DIII a few months ago. I'll need to double check if it is solved already. It should be resolved for the released version but I can't recommend it if I'm not 99.9% sure it'll work. So give me a few hours and I'll see if it's all good or if I can find a better deal.
I've only ordered from Tiger once, it was ok. I don't think you'll have any problems with any of those 2 companies.
So... yea sorry about that, like I said I'll double check all this and let you know your best option.
Seems like the problem is mainly resolved with the latest drivers, however it'll be best if I could find someone with a similar laptop to confirm... Meanwhile, I'll keep on looking for alternatives. Did you have a specific budget ? I'm guessing no more than 699$ ?
I told the wife that I'm shooting for between 500-700 range. That seems like it shouldn't be too hard to do. This isn't the exact same list that I had made at work yesterday, but I left my print out there so I'm not exactly sure which computers were on it.

From those 4 I'd pick this one : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834215245
Edit :
It has a good review.
It has a dual core / 4 threads CPU (hyper threaded)
Apparently the screen is very good. The luminosity and the contrast are excellent. It's 17.3" and you get a pretty nice resolution (1600 x 900).
You can expect to be able to run on battery power for at least 2h45 while watching a movie with WiFi on and screen at max brightness.
The laptop can get quite hot though, so if you are using it for long gaming sessions, I would recommend using a laptop cooler. I have the Zalman ZM-NC2000B but my laptop is quite huge, you might be ok with the smaller model : Zalman ZM-NC1500B.
The only negative point that I've seen in the review is it's average construction and look.
Under the hood, this is a very good machine for the price.

How about this laptop?
GPU seems fine but the CPU might not be good enough.
Or what do you think?

Well, they decided to save money on the CPU and put more power with the GPU, hopefully it won't bottleneck to much the GPU and the game will be playable. This will depend a lot on how much the game is CPU bound or not. This is very hard to tell how good laptops will run the game when they have erratic specs like these (a very powerful GPU and an ~ok / average CPU). I would personally have more faith in a i3 / i5 unless I could try the game on this particular config before buying it.
Well, I'm back! I've looked at these laptops on newegg a dozen times by now, and I'm not sure I can justify getting one of those $700 models if something cheaper will run the game well enough (we're also trying to buy a house...). I've been coming back to these two quite a bit, but I'm leaning towards the acer (bigger screen, i5). Plus, the acer has one 4gig stick of ram and two slots, I'd probably go ahead and upgrade it. The dell is cheap enough to upgrade the ram, but I'm not sure of how it's ram is set up.

Any thoughts, wise one??
Thanks!
Yes the Acer Aspire AS7739G-6676 seems like a good choice for the price. I don't see any problem with it. The reason it is a bit cheaper than other laptops with i5 is because the 480m is an older generation (so not SandyBridge). That being said it is still a good CPU. The GeForce GT 610M should perform pretty much like the GeForce GT 520M (maybe a bit better). As long as you are aware and ok with the fact that you won't be able to play with graphics at max, I think you will be happy with your purchase. I'm sure you will enjoy playing Diablo in your own house
So I wish you luck with your notebook and your house, and I'll see you on Battle.net in June. (If you have any other questions feel free to ask).
