I've written recently about why players can't make gold in Diablo 3, but here on the forum I'd like to put a different spin on it and discuss how we can make gold off of them!
Players like to see bigger, better numbers on their weapons. This causes them to drop gold like crazy in order to obtain the best they can at that moment. They waste time and gold buying gear too frequently. Why do they do this? Mostly because their brain releases endorphins when they get excited over new, shiny items. After each "high", the player longs for another release and will seek out new gear/weapons to get the feeling back.
In order to support this crazy lifestyle, players have resort to selling items far too cheaply on the auction house. To them, the auction house is just a vendor that pays slightly better than normal vendors!
You can take advantage of these players by figuring out when they play.
Addicts play at odd times, and one of the best buying opportunities is Saturday morning. Why? Because all these addicted players bought and sold items late Friday night until they passed out at their computers in the wee hours of the morning. By 8:00 AM, most are asleep or still sleeping from the night before. This is when you step in.
With the competition napping, you can find all of their recently posted auctions driving down the average price of whatever it is you want to stock up on. You'll be able to resupply at a fraction of the normal cost due to this scenario.
In WoW I called this "Saronite Saturdays" becuase all the farmers and late night players would dump their auctions after a long Friday farming expedition, thus dropping the price considerably. You'd literally get Saronite ore for half price on Saturday mornings, and I suspect that many items will act the same way in Diablo 3.
That's how you take advantage of other players' endorphins!
These "Saronite Saturdays" you mention might appear in bigger dimensions in d3 since you have to quit your session to sell stuff. So the "long Friday farming expedition" turns into "gaming all Friday and night". Meaning many will try to sell their stuff after ~20 hours. But i think this will be the case in a later point of time after release, when many ppl are in hell/inferno.
One thing I used to do in Star Wars Galaxies was to end high ticket auctions late on a Saturday night... For a fun little exercise I'll give the first person to tell me why I used to do this a cookie... As a bonus I'll throw in a little word jumble... Repiku Segdpl Nnoplnde... Aka, what I like to think of as being real DPS, screw your damage meters.![]()
Prikue pledges plonded...... I don't know what you are trying to say here.
My brother is a cab driver, and he gets his best tips on Saturday nights. Apparently it's because he gets a lot of drunk people in his cab. Does it have something to do with that?
Yep, get a bid war going between 2 sober people and you make a little cash, get one going between 2 drunks and you might as well take the rest of the week off... Obviously it's not quite that good but if you have the right kind of item and 2 drunks... You gonna get rich... S'why I used to love doing business on Euro servers, them Euro drunks don't wait for no stinking weekends, they'll be loaded at 10am on a Tuesday if there's a soccer game on TV, pre-recorded or not... Don't get me wrong, American drunks do it well enough but nothing in the West stands up to an old fashioned euro drunkard.![]()
True story.
Other good thing to keep eye on is when people list bids. When they don't put buyout on the auction people lose interest and just let the auction roll. First 48 hours of the week are good time to keep eyes open if there are some sweet auctions closing that go under priced because the seller didn't put BO on the auction.
