Whats the best items for an avenger? I won't be tanking so I want the most damage as possible

As for best gear... it's hard to say. What do you want? Do you want a strong physical attack with the elemental damage from Vengeance as a minor side dish? Do you want strong elemental damage?

Something like 'Grief' mixed in with 'Fortitude' and Fanaticism Aura gives you really good physical damage, but it leaves the elemental damage from Vengeance unnoticed. If you invest in +min/max jewels instead and use something like 'Breath of the Dying', you'll get way more elemental damage but you'll lose a lot of physical damage in the process.

Omg omg, Grief doesn't work with Vengenace. You'd just be a smelly non-Zealing Zealot.

@Assassin: BotD, with its built in 60% ias and 7% ML, is probably going to be your best bet barring some absurdly powerful rare item.

the best weapon would be an ebotd war spike. Fort armor works, if you're not worried about resists or defense definitely try a 15/15/15 ormus' robes. Other than that, +skills are good, +min/max damage is good. Make sure you have a decent amount of leech.

HoZ is probably the best shield you can get, though spirit comes with +mana and FHR along with +2 skills, which helps keep vengeance going without having to spam mana potions.

I know. But you'll still get more physical damage using 'Grief'. :P

Also, 'Fortitude' doesn't improve the elemental side of Vengeance damage either. Your best bet is a +2 Skill armor with a +30 Max Damage jewel plugged inside.

I'd say something like this:
eBotD War Spike
Highlord's
Andy's + 15IAS jewl / CoA + 2x15IAS
CoH, else Fort. Fort won't help vengeance damage ofc, but it's still a good choice. If you can afford the rarer stuff then some kinda armour with +max (or maybe facets) is another option.

T-gods / String of Ears / Verdungo's
Drac's
War Travs
Raven + dual leech with whatever ring

Usually you'd need an A2 merc to tank for you, but if you don't then a Faith merc changes the game a bit. You can go with a BA instead of the War Spike and won't need any other IAS on your gear, so you can swap out the Highlord's for Mara's and your helm for a CoA with +max jewels.

Probably the best "bang for buck" avenger weapon would be Oath, I'd say in an Ethereal conquest sword. 37-53 base damage, Ethereal, 300 odd percent enhanced damage and 50% ias on board to get that attack speed up. Might not be as good as a BotD, but certainly more affordable.

Also, 'Fortitude' doesn't improve the elemental side of Vengeance damage either. Your best bet is a +2 Skill armor with a +30 Max Damage jewel plugged inside.

Actually I'd vote for a Ormus's robes. The +xx% to elemental damage works with Vengeance. Then get larzuk to plug a min/max damage jewel into it.

OK, im currently working an avenger on USWest NL and i have the runes for a BOTD but what do i put them in. Do i go for a phase blade for speed or do i go for a zerk axe for killing power???

PB is a waste for BOTD, no? only eth items for this word...

the dmg difference is huge. perfect roll PB Botd avg base of 165. Eth Zerker 356.
Base dmg difference ~ 190. this multiplied by a synergized high level vengeance (*3 elements*~4.50 vengeance damage), more than double damage for the zerker I think.
