Note: I have already skimmed through the builds listed in the classic as well as as the paladin sub-forum as well as utilizing the search function. Please do not reiterate this.
I was wondering whether or not this build would suffice in terms of affordability and playability. Opinions and comments are appreciated.

I made a hammerdin much like that one many patches ago and I suspect it's still a viable build.
If you intend to play in classic you will have to find other rings though, as both the ones you mentioned are not available in Classic. Personally, I'd probably go for a ring with FC+fire res(21-30%) and a ring with FC+lightning res(21-30%). Then upgrade to rings with a additional resist and other bonusses when possible/available.
Eventually I replaced the Spectral Shard with a +2 pala 10fcr scepter and I replaced the armor with a Heavenly Garb to get some mana regen going. In 1 or 2 player games I didn't even need the conc aura.
Skillwise you may want to consider a point in the Salvation(tri-resist aura for those blessed with a non-English Diablo 2) aura to back up your resists when a unique with conviction shows up.
But your setup should certainly work in classic. On paper anyway.![]()
Classic, where a runeword is a weapon missing the s in the middle.
I apologize for that, there wasn't really a good repository with classic only items in Arreat Summit unfortunate as it may.
Without the rings stated, the setup would still have a capped 85 all res. in hell. With the rings you mentioned, the build would still fall within the FCR frame of 11. If the build was to switch over to what you mentioned, the FCR will change to 12 and the all res. would fall to 85/82/85/82. Is the + skills worth the drop in FCR frames / lower all res. ?
your overestimating resists a bit - hdins do most of the dirty business in melee range so defense is very important (hence the gs, mage plate and ornate school of thought)- and shard builds do less dps than scepter so the dex bonuses of twitch nd iratha will be sort of obsolete,, iratha also misses life bonuses from belt and helm - important pieces of potential survivability, youll be able to gamble dual 30+res boots for cheap so tears are kinda a waste of time
ornate with high ed, life and dual resist
2/3/2 or 2/3/3 scepter
+1/2din 30/20 priz shield
+2din ammy
grim helm with high ed, life and dual resist
2x fcr ring with str/dual resist
hotspurs
magefist
most common hdin build out there
Any ornate being worn by a hdin should definitely have -req imo. Mage plates are probably more common.
