hey guys im planning on buying a desktop and parts soon. but i heard there was a disaster in thailand. prices of harddrives have gone up double.
so
1. when will this price go down? if not soon, is the only option to just suck it up and buy a HDD?
2. i wanna play diablo 3 on good settings. is this a good set up? a kind gentleman was able to give me advice (i dunno the first thing about computers)
i only plan on playing D3, SC2. id like to play both on high settings if possible:
500gb hdd -$50
21.5" monitor1080p hannspree- $120
asrock am3mobo - $50
ddr3 4gb ram - $25
antec 300 illusion (4freaking led fans)- $45 ($15 deal ends today, better hurry up and buy this)
win 7- $80 (get it with a combo with the mobo to shave$20 off)
antec 430w psu - $45
dvd burner - $23
amd 955 - $120
amd 6850 - $140
total: $698
thanks!
Looks good to me, except for the PSU. AMD recommends a 500W PSU for the 6850 and I wouldn't go below that. Other than that, you won't have any problems running D3 in 1920x1080 at max settings.
thanks for the prompt reply man.
do u have any opinion on the HDD? (the thailand situation and all)
Well, I wouldn't buy one at the moment if money is an issue. Can't you keep using the one you have or ask a friend if he or she can loan you one until the prices go down?
is it not a big deal - the spec of the harddrive? so if its less than 500gb its not gonna affect or screw other functions up?
thanks!!
Not really, it only affects loading times. Since D3 constantly loads the visible areas in the background you may experience stuttering while you're running around, but it shouldn't be too bad. Basically any SATA HDD should do a good job. I'm running D3 from a really old 200gb PATA HDD and it runs just fine.
awesome. my friend said he might have a spare desktop from work and he would give me the computer parts if he still has it.
what parts do u think i could salvage? for sure not the graphics card or anything substantial.. do u think maybe the dvd burner and hard drive then? it was a company computer.
sorry for so many questions. u dont have to answer if it seems to annoying.
really appreciate it tho. i didnt know the first thing about computers before my researching this for D3.
also, if i use a temporary hard drive does that mean i have to get all the info i have in that computer and then use an external or something to transfer it all?
thanksssss
I would definitely keep the HDD and DVD burner if they work, but ask your friend about the capacity of the HDD, because depending on how much stuff you like to keep on your PC it could be small for you.
I would also keep the keyboard and mouse, just as spare parts. They could come in handy.
If it comes with a monitor keep that as well. Even it's old and/or small, you can use it as a secondary monitor beside your new one, which would make it more comfortable to read guides or chat with friends while gaming for example.
Ask your friend if he needs the data on the HDD or not and what should you do with it. If doesn't need it, then just format the HDD while installing Windows.
for the hdd I would go with a smaller drive with a higher rpm, get a 7200 rpm drive, as for $50 I imagine you are buying a 5400 storage drive
for even better results get a 10,000rpm scsi drive
the rest of the parts are pretty standard for buget pcs and should run d3 without a problem.
RPM isn't that important for gaming, where load times are mostly limited by seek times. Higher RPM helps with that, but a 5400 RPM HDD isn't the end of the world.
