    Re: New wizard PvP thread

For some reason I always assumed that our AP regen becomes zero while we're channeling spells. I watched a few videos where Wizards used Disintegrate and I was clearly wrong.

You're right of course. I just wanted to prove the under some circumstances it can be useful to stack Defense. It was also interesting to think about the limits of the build.

As far as I know, dodge can only be found on skills. Although for the monk, items with Precision can indirectly increase dodge chance, if you have the Sixth Sense passive.

    Never mind!

    New build!

Find the fastest attacking weapon you could get and just mass the attack attribute for highest dmg possible.

If Spectral blades is considered to be a melee attack you should be able to get full HP every time you hit. 100% back as life with a 400 hp pool should be enough right? With more than 1 attack per second, even rapid fire should be screwed right?

    Thoughts?

I don't see it as game breaking. You have very little health and are vulnerable to fast attacks and DoTs. If you stack defense and life regen, you'll have damage problems, and you'll just be an annoyance. PvP is multiplayer deathmatch now, not a war of attrition.

Not to mention while teleporting towards the demon hunter, the demon hunter can also vault away or use smoke screen. A wizard with low health and melee just seems too risky.

Low health is the whole point of the build and what makes it so effective.

A minimum life wizard can easily ramp up enough regen to recover her whole health in just 1 second. The key to the build is the rune effect for energy armor that makes every hit above 26% of the wizards hp will be reduced to 26% of the wizard hp. So any hit over about 80 dmg, will be reduced to 80 dmg. Based on that, the only thing that will matter is the enemie attack speed. The fastest attck skill i know of is rapid fire (about 6 attacks per second.) With attacks beeing reduced to 26%, the wizard can survive for 3 attacks or 0.5 seconds. At that time the wizard should have recovered half her hp pool. Eventually the wizard will die of course, but she should have plenty of time to escape. If we now add the fact that she also can replenish her whole hp pool with every strike she does she will be impossibe to kill unless she is stunned or frozen. She might have trouble with several enemies at once, but one on one she shuld be absulutely impossible to kill for 97% of all characters.

Meh. Just wait until arena comes out and the entire "there are skills that stop you from casting skills" thing disabuses him of the illusion that this build is immortal.

Mr.Negative. Never said that this build is immortal. I don't even know if it's possible to do, but its fun to speculate. It is however an interesting pvp build to discuss and is one of the most unique builds I have seen. If it will work? Maybe, maybe not.

I know that stuns and other CC skills will be a threat to this build. But even if you are stunned your opponent must perform, because of the regen, around 4 attacks per seconds to be able to kill you, and maybe 5-6 attacks per second to be able to kill you within the duration of a stun. This calculation is without the fact that the familiar can absorb up to 8 attacks when you are under 25%hp.

I also know that if you are up against multiple enemies alone, you will probably die pretty quickly, but so do most builds in that situation.

I thought the purpose of these kinds of threads was to come up with and discuss interesting PVP builds. Instead of just being negative and a little bit rude, try to come up with a better build yourself, or try to come up with a good counter-build. You could at least admit that this build is pretty unique and worth a try.

I know I am a sucker for different and unique builds. It's possible that I live in an illusion, but please prove me wrong if I am.

This is the exaggeration I was talking about.

I am merely highlighting the gaping holes in your build concept. After all, do you want sycophants or actual pitfalls to consider?

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...Udg!bdW!Zabaab

Here, a fairly bog-standard WD DoT based build that your Wizard can't really do anything about. Your damage blocking abilities (probably) don't work on the DoTs, and since this WD is geared for offense, he should be able to overcome your regeneration stack readily. And heaven help you if Blizzard ends up implementing a "stop natural life regeneration" as an item mod for poison damage crits or the like.

Barbarian has access to Rend/Whirlwind/Earthquake and the fact, that, well, it is a Barbarian that has a ludicrous amount of tanking/stunning/melee DPS of its own. Beating Barbarians when your build is basically guaranteed to let them build up their momentum is probably going to be hard.

Monks... depends on the build I guess. They have plenty sources of DoT damage and impressive healing of their own.

Demon Hunter will probably have the most trouble killing you if the Impale and Strafe or Rapid Fire with Shadow Power combo can't immediately end you, but you will probably not kill a standard DH escape kit either with such weak and melee reliant offense.

Other Wizards? Blizzard, Hydra, Twister, Disintegrate, Ray of Frost, Torrent, Archon...

Look at it this way - you have a clever twist on a life leach build that took a specific skill combination to deal with one of leach build's greatest conceptual enemies - overwhelming burst damage. But you have no way to glue yourself to a target and no way to handle being disabled with two of your major defensive abilities being reliant on not being stunned, etc. Your ability to block burst damage isn't water tight - Familiar, from the description, will be bypassed by anything that can deal its burst damage in 3 rapid spikes. And, ultimately, you are using a 105% weapon damage spell with only Magic Weapon to boost its damage - you probably picked the lowest possible single target DPS attack short of Forked Magic Missiles or Twister here.
