I think the term is actually based solely from a spf perspective.

Spf'ers often look down on spf members who stray outside of the fold too much.

I may be a commie, but the spf will always be my home. Likely even after D3 comes out and I quit playing D2.

i always took it as someone who was a poster in the D2 Community and before OTF was moved to D3 area. with the exception of a few areas for a brief amount of time, I've always stayed in the D2 area and OTF. the only reason I moved to the D3 area was because Bad Ash became a mod and I felt he needed some Commie company. and that's how i met Corax, Cakes, etc. and got to know Kegs more. I met Kegs thru a thread i started about Secret of Mana and him, Technomancer, and Dredd and a few others kinda helped me along and gave me great advice and shared their love for the game.

I don't know, maybe people aren't like that in the spf, its more of a general feeling I get.

I've been getting strong urges for SoM lately, I'm pretty sure it's going to surface on my screen before long.

I've pretty much played it into the ground, but it's been a while. I don't think I even have it installed since I got my new comp, but it's not hard.
