I'm looking to do this with my sorc at the start of the ladder. I'm looking for D keys. I'm hoping my sorc can get a natures peace ring. If not I'll make a lawbringer. The path is so short and simple that I don't need an insight merc.
I'm looking to make a barb merc with lawbringer. Doing this I never got CE'd. My two questions
1) What sword should I make it in. I made this one in a phase blade. It took him forever to kill some things, the spiders in cave for one. It also had a real high dex which limits my choice in helms.
2) The vipers rip through him. I did give him Gladiators bane and that helped buy he still died. I'm wondering about gearing him up for 7 sol'd armor. 4 in the armor and 3 in the helm. Will this be enough to survive the vipers and what about the other nasty things that are down there?
I don't know if you need so much damage reduce, maybe you should just be quicker when killing the vipers and remember to use teleport to save him? I've got an act 2 merc with a 19 dr eth gladiators, and he very rarely died, and only in 8 players games?
Anyways, instead of a 4 sol'd armor, just put a sol rune in a gladiator's bane and you've got almost as much (potentially 27 vs. 28), but this also has cbf and higher defense and stuff.
If you mean a a5 merc with lawbringer I would go with an eth cs or eth cb lawbringer in that case. Really eth reapers on an a2 merc is the best choice by far but if you want to experiment with an a5 merc go for it. I used an a5 merc with lawbringer before on a wind druid merc and it worked out ok but not the best.
use an actual barb to run Dkeys. better than a sorc.
AFAIK Lawbringer's RIP will not affect enemies you kill if it's on your merc, so you'd only use that if you already had Nature's and your A2 merc gave you problems. I'd stick to a HF merc with Gladiator's since he'll be able to leech much better than a barb merc.
Appreciate the advice. I just don't want to CE to go off at all. So the idea of using natures on me and a lawbringer on barb is the only way to assure that happens.
If you don't want CE to go off just don't use a merc. I never use a merc for Nilly for this exact reason.
mercs are a nuisance on Nihlathak runs. go with a build that doesn't rely on merc support for that task.
a k/t'sin was my Nihlathak smacker of choice back when i wrote my guide on the subject.
