since each piece has a different icon for each class, what would be the best way to add them to the wiki?
As we did with the skills each item should be created as a template. This template would be used in the individual item page and also the listing page for that item type. For example:
http://www.diablowiki.net/Pauldrons
That would contain all that is listed here
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/item/pauldrons/
by pulling in the templates for those items.
Doing it with a templates means that it only has to be updated in one place.
As for the unique armour images I suggest we simply use a 5 column table because other than the actual image and which class it goes with it doesn't contain any other information.

Update guys,
Okay, I've only done one so far (3am and need to get to bed now)
http://www.diablowiki.net/Leather_Mantle
http://www.diablowiki.net/Pauldrons
I'm not sure what else would go on the individual item pages but this was just to get the stats box on there really.
As the items get better quality they get more data, and the sets even more so so would we need to have more columns in the info box or another template for legendary/set to allow for more details or would the one template (used on LEather Mantle) be enough for all?
So before I go ahead it's best other updaters discuss it.....
Let's hear your thoughts.

I checked most of the items and the maximum +properties I found was 7 and I noticed that only on few weapons. Many of the high level legendary armour and accessories had 6 properties. I did a preview template to see how it would fit and I didn't see any problem with them.
The problem might come with as you mentioned, set items. Adding all the set bonuses as well as the other pieces of the set would make one template awfully long.
My best guess would be to make different templates for set items, having maybe 5 columns if it's not too many.
Picture|Name|Properties|Other pieces|Set bonuses
Or something along those lines. I'm not an expert so feel free to add or share your ideas. Also, while we're at it, I think it would be great to make a preview template for both unique and set items which we could improve on before starting to craft all of the templates (colouring, categories etc.).
Yeah it's no extra effort to make a set item table template.
I'll give this another couple of days to see if the other guys have any input, just to be sure before I press on making all the pages.

I changed the template a little bit.
What I'm wondering is, for the appearance template, when you click one of the images if it should take you to a page that shows all the different appearances of this item for that class (perhaps even including those of legendary items)
EDIT: also chest armor probably are going to have 2 different look for male/female, not sure what to do about those.

no the icon for the armor, at least in the game files there is a male/female version for most of them.
Not having played the beta I can't be sure if it's the same ingame, but i would think some class like the barbarian or witch doctor would have pretty different icon for male/female chest armor
I think some pants (particularly those of the Demon Hunter) might be different for male/female too.
Have to deal with that one when it gets here.
What do you think about the presentation of lists of items?
http://www.diablowiki.net/Shoulders
See there, that's all the common Pauldons. Now I want to move onto making the crafted, legendary etc. Do you think they should be listed on that same page or on pages following Blizzard's classification?
- Magic Shoulders
- Rare Shoulders
- Legendary Shoulders
- Set Shoulders
Some other item categories contain more than 34 items as is the case with shoulders so those pages such asDaggers will get incredibly long once we insert all the individual dagger templates to create the list.
