Assuming increased attack speed effects how quickly you refresh the AoE, it gives you the ability to pop a spender (like a heal or protection) and continue to sustain Blade Storm. It could also allow you to spam certain cheap, low cooldown spenders like tail kick and of course, dashing strike. In all honesty though the example of Way of 100% fists obsidian was just an example... I haven't really thought this build through yet because right now I'm just absorbing the discussion were having.
The whole "crippling wave slows on every hit in beta" thing annoys me because that's not the way it's written in the calculator. So I'm personally choosing not to believe that is anything more than testing until I see it on the website. It seems slightly OP but if they give it to us I'll take it.
There are a lot of things in the skill calc that don't match what's in the beta. It may be that the next version of the beta will have what the skill calc has though. Most notably a lot of the things that scale with weapon damage according to the skill calc don't in the beta.
Ok that still gives me hope that staves will be viable at higher levels, but I guess in the beginning it'll be all about dual wielding.

I think the beginning of the game will be all about whatever weapon you happen to pick up i.e. it doesn't matter because the content is so easy =)
From the looks of it there is just no benefits to using a staff until you get one with a good +spirit generation mod. And there are only a few of those we've seen (not counting potential rare/blue properties) a lvl 24 crafted, lvl 45 legendary drop and the lvl 60 set.
Though I do still have hope that Blizz will be able to balance 2hs v. DW better then they have in their past games.
