D3 Devs do SWTOR a Favor...

It's no coincidence that at 5:35 a.m. on the day after Blizzard announces D3 will be pushed to "early 2012" I had an email from SWTOR announcing a 12/20/11 release date.

Whether it was the late addition of the RMAH, the inexplicable problems with the DH class and resource system (after this much internal testing), the bizarre confusion of so many "placeholder" items (that they now have to backtrack off their website), the lack of a complete skill list (but they released a skill calculator... what?), the latest tinkering with the rune system... they just gave away the holiday season high ground to their competition.

In the end, I think this benefits both companies not competing with each other at the same time, but I think EA came out on top in this one.

Blizz was scared of Skyrim
they knew they couldn't compete so they delayed their game till people got bored of Skyrim

/yeah right, about as equally probable as "It's no coincidence ..."

people that is interested in the sci fi mmo swtor will buy it regardless of when D3 is released.

i want to play Battlefield 3. I dont care if it is released before, same time or after D3. Still gonna buy it.

D3 isn't competitor to swtor.

This is blizzard, if they don't push the game back at least 10 times, THEN I'll be surprised.

lol if Skyrim is the game that people will get bored aftera few month then it's not a D3 compettitor.

I don't know...maybe they didn't want to lose subs to Star Wars and their own game...but I wonder how many people waiting to play D3 have, like myself, already canceled their WoW subs, or will be doing so in anticipation?

I will say this, it is probably not related, but I am sure some of the powers that be are not unhappy with the delay, if it saves them a few months of subs.

I'm not trying SWTOR and still playing WoW for some length of time until D3 comes out. I'm not sure I'll stay playing it until D3 launches or quit it sooner, but I'm definitely not playing WoW anymore once D3 is out.

Both of these announcements bummed me out, I was hoping SWTOR would be out earlier than that. I've pre-ordered SWTOR so I'll have early access, but I don't imagine it'll be any more than a week ahead of time. Having my beta app in for SWTOR since '09 hasn't helped my chances of getting in either...
