I don't think you will be held back that much by your CPU for D3 only. Except for a AMD Phenom II X4, you can't get better than that without changing your motherboard, which would be a bigger investment.
My advice would be to wait until the release of the game. If you are chosen for the beta, you will have the opportunity to try the game with your current system and see how good it works, My bet is you will be able to run it at max settings without any problems. If you really want to upgrade next year when D3 is out, it will be cheaper or better (Bulldozer ?) Do you plan on playing any other games besides D3 ?
I tried installing the beta on my old fujitsu laptop last night, which runs Sc2 fairly well. Unfortunately, *after* i had installed, the game told me my Intel 965 integrated GPU wasn't supported. It didn't even try :(
Phenom II X6 1055T 2.86Ghz - HD4850 1gb DDR3 - 4gb DDR3 1333MHz - 500Watts DUEX - ASUS M4N68T - M LE - Creative SB live 5.1
i think this machine could handle d3 well enough ...i only have trouble with sound card because it is for 32 bit OP and i using a Win7 64

Thanks for the info... it really did help.
Well I realized this too. BTW, does D3 support more than 2 cores? Phenom II X4 would be a good idea only if it has higher CPU Frequency, right? But those are more power hungry (as well as my new card) so I fear I would have to buy new power supply. Well, I think I will see how the D3 will run. I don't play other games requiring better computer. Just Magic the Gathering, Runes of Magic, HOMAM V. Fresh news: Path of Exile Beta runs quite well with my new HD6850.![]()
I don't expect D3 to take advantage of more than 2 cores. I base my assumptions on Starcraft 2 performances. So you are right, you wont really get a performance boost if you switch to a quad core at the same clock speed. I have started working on a benchmark program for D3, so we might get a better idea on how it runs on different CPUs. I am pretty confident that the 2500K/2600K will the winners here.
I'm thinking of buying a new laptop. My old one just broke and my desktop was bought back in 2004.
I could use an upgrade on both computers but since I only have money for one, I think I'll stick with the laptop.
Anyway, will I be able to run the game on max settings ?
Asus K53SV-SX045V:
Intel® Core™ i5-2410M Dual Core (Sandy Bridge) / 2,3 GHz / 3mb cache
4gb RAM DDR3-1333
NVIDIA® GeForce™ GT 540M / 1024mb dedicated memory
Also, considering that i can spend hours and hours playing, I'm wondering about the possibility of the laptop overheating. Anyone here with one of these or at least some experience with ASUS laptops can let me know the quality of their cooling systems ?
Yes at high settings and DX11 options too if they ever implement them. Not sure how much more than 30fps you'll get at high settings though, but it will definitively run at at least 30fps+.
As for the overheating issue, it can be a problem on some laptops, but if you make sure to put it on a flat surface you should be fine. You can also raise it a bit more by putting something under the feet which will allow more fresh air to come in. There are also notebook coolers out there, but I'm not sure it is worth it. You should try the game first and see if you really need one.
Czy polska?
I don't really see why it wouldn't run on max settings, since it has 1366x768 resolution. Maybe you would have to turn off AA. Also I saw there is, I think newer version of this laptop, SX055V. Though I am not really sure whats diffrence between them.
I can't really tell how the cooling system works, but no metter if it's great or avarage it's really worth to buy cooling pad (dunno if you own one already or not). Those things will lower temp of your laptop, especially if you plan to play few hours per day.
You could get for example:
CoolerMaster NotePal X2 or CoolerMaster NotePal U3
or something else

My system:
*Intel core 2 quad q9550 > 2.8 O.C. > 3.9 ghz (running very well ... 45~52º full load)
*4GB ram ddr2 900 mhz gskill 9-9-9-12
*HD WD 500 gb 32mb buffer
*GPU HD5770 1GB
*Sound card X-Fi extreme gamer
I'm using W7 ultimate 64x
Obs: Running on 24" 1920x1080 screen
Games like CoD: Black Ops > run 50 > 60 fps in maxed settings (8x AA) / Starcraft > 60 fps
I want to run Diablo 3 in "ultra quality"...
Do you think this is possible?
Thx
