So, I have no clue whether this is true or not obviously (I'm not in the F+F beta), but I was reading a post on another forum where someone was listing what previously unknown details we now know about the game/beta.
One of the details they listed in the beta was that Kin Leoric only drops rares on the first time killing him per character. This is frightening. Not sure if it's been confirmed or not, but if bosses only drop nice items (rares, uniques, legendaries what have you) on your first time killing them, I would probably not bother buying the game. That is not Diablo at all.
So can somebody clear up my dismay at hearing this, and confirm whether this is a beta only feature or what.
It's probably just like Diablo 2 where the first time you kill a major boss, they have an increased drop chance for higher items then it resets down to normal.
in order to kill skeleton king again you have to go back to earlier quest, not sure if you can just go back 1 quest or if you have to start fresh, and I can't play right now so I will figure it out later.
Good.... hopefully people will be killing things other than bosses... plus Skel King isn't a BOSS. Go out and enjoy the environment.
XP has never been about boss runs.
Baal runs were only Baal runs (for many people) because of the XP. In 1.09 all that was cows. In 1.08 it was Bloody Foothills. Pre-LoD it was RoF, or for the handful of people seriously going for 99, it was Diablo but only because of the XP.
Item finding is also not about boss runs, it is about finding items as efficiently as possible. In addition to boss runs there are also super unique runs (eg Pindle), area runs (eg Pits), and hybrids of the three (eg CS). Also note that prior to LoD, boss runs (eg Meph) bordered on useless.
Obviously PvP & trading are not about boss runs either.
I'm aware a large amount of player hours are devoted to meph runs, but 90%? You'll have to explain that.
