Hey guys, I'd rather not go through 15 pages of reading, so perhaps I can just ask my question and someone can lead me in the right direction. It seems that my current computer has all of the requirements to run diablo 3 except for the graphics card. Here's a little about my computer:
- ASUS P5WD2 Premium Motherboard
- 2GB Ram
- Pentium D
- Windows 7 64 bit
- DVD Rom
- 74GB on SS harddrive (C, 232G on regular harddrive (D
- Radeon X1800 Series
The last dash is the problem-- so I need a better graphics card. Can anyone tell me what a good graphics card to get is? Btw I'm on a budget, so try to keep it low as possible (definitely not anything more than 150$).
I recommend the nVidia GTX550ti, IIRC it should be around 120$.
The current laptop I am using has an ATI mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics card. Obviously there is no problem with playing D2, but I dont see that card on the supported or unsupported cards. There are ATI mobility Radeon HD cards on the low setting, but I didnt see the 4250. I have been looking at some systems and thinking about putting a desktop together myself. I am pretty sure most people are going to say that a desktop has the most flexibility and is more capable in the gaming dept. My wife gave me the green light on an Alienware laptop, but I dont know if I can get myself to drop the change on the one I want(over 2500$). With the release date coming out today, I have 2 months to get my **** together I guess.

I have a 6770m (mobile version of the 6770) - it's not on the list. Any thoughts on that? My pc is a core i7 (quad-core) 2630qm with turbo boost, has 8GB RAM, runs Win 7 home premium, and had switchable graphics for a dedicated GPU of a Radeon HD 6770m 2GB (VRAM) GDDR5 (yay for it not being DDR3!) Would I be okay running Diablo 3 at decent settings? My laptop's screen is 1920x1080 native resolution, but I'm ok lowering the resolution for D3 a bit to ~720p.
Care to elaborate?
I know the 6850 is faster for about the same money, but after having driver troubles with my 5750 for more than a year I cannot with good conscience recommend ATi cards to anyone. They're indeed faster, but their drivers have quite a huge room to improve. They are usually very slow to react to serious bugs, like the time they needed one month to fix Rage running 1-2 FPS on many of their cards. They also had the Windows mouse cursor becoming larger for absolutely no reason bug for months, which is perfectly harmless, but to be honest it makes me question the competence of their driver team. Anyway, yes, ATi cards are faster for the same money, but not more reliable in my experience.
The best performance for money was pretty much the main reason. If I'd have to recommend an NVidia video card, it would be either the GTX 460 (which would indeed be less than 150$) or the GTX 560 TI (which is a bit too expensive for what he is asking for), but I can't recommend the 550 because the ratio is simply not good. It's not flat out bad though, just not the best choice imo.
It would be nice if Blizzard gave everyone who wanted beta a key now, so at least we could test how the game runs (graphics wise, speed) before release.
