The thing you guys are downloading is what every beta testers has to get; it's just a small installer that then runs and pulls in the beta client, torrent-style, from everyone else who has it. When I DLed it over the weekend it took forever, since still fairly few people had the full beta client. People I know who grabbed it yesterday said it loaded very quickly, via the magic of more people on the torrent.
As we've been saying on the main page, all you can do with this client is poke at the options menus. You must have a b.net account with beta access to play the game. So it's kind of useless, except of course for all the game data in the files, which is fueling all the leaks you've seen in other threads.
Blizzard only included content for early act one stuff, in terms of graphics, sound effects, etc. But all the skills and item names and such for the whole game can be found, though there's no guarantee they'll match up to the final game version of that stuff, as the beta client will date from months before the release version.
