Tyrael in his infinite wisdom forsaw all these events around the time of D3 and the prime evils greater plan in D2 all along.

When he destroyed the worldstone he was merely playing along. Knowing of the impending doom in the future Tyrael took action and prior to the events of D2 tyrael fathered a secret lovechild with the demon Andariel resulting in a Nephalem offspring wielding the power to stop the forces of hell many years in the future when fully grown.

I have but one problem with this... Tyrael's "infinite wisdom" He pretty much got pwned by everyone ever since he was introduced to the lore...
If Diablo 3 comes and Tyrael actually turns out to be the master mind in any way, I'm gonna rip my hair off.

Seriously now, without the jokes, I don't think there's much to it.
