I recently received my new copies of the entire Diablo Archive, and I just finished the Kingdom of Shadow. I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the whole thing and I kept picturing each scene in my mind, adding to the enjoyment. Realistically, we can't expect all of the book's events to be faithfully reproduced in a game, so I kept thinking, what part does Ureh play in Diablo 3?
There's no indication of where in the "official timeline" the events fit, so we could literally expect anything. Juris Khan was recreated in an uberquest in MedianXL but there was no backstory to it. Just enter a huge dungeon named Ureh and get to the evil bugger, kick his undead bum and take the ubercharm. There's no way the D3 version would be as plain as that.
I also just started reading Legacy of Blood. I'm still on the first few pages where the starting characters are discussing recent events that include the plundering of (old) Tristram after the departure of the Wanderer. It said that the characters ventured the labyrinth and returned to Tristram only a few weeks after Diablo's alleged defeat, so this could perhaps place the L.o.B. events at the same time around D2.
I haven't read any of the other books so far, but the possibilities are evidently vast. Don't know about you but I'd find it extremely amazing if we could play a part in the stories. I would definitely want to play through some of the K.o.S. events.....which means we'd need an accompanying Necromancer.....hmmmmm![]()
I would love to see a fleshed out Ureh. But after the events of KoS I don't see there being much to do there for quite some time. It could possibly be a staging ground for Hell of somesort since it has strong ties to Diablo himself.
Also, without spoiling anything, the entire LoB story takes place during the events of D2. You'll understand where it fits in once you start seeing some familiar faces. I really liked LoB and KoS. Is the Moon of the Spider in the archive? That is, IMO, THE absolute must read of all the Diablo books.
thanks, I only just started reading them last weekend, bit of a slow reader, I like to take my time and digest anything. And between the Diablo archive and the 5 first Skulduggery Pleasant books (which surprised me big time, awesome doesn't begin to describe them), I'll have more time on the weekend. LoB has definitely gotten my attention, it got grittily good in a hurry.
Btw guys, the SP books I mentioned are similar enough to the Diablo universe. They both feature necromancers (SP got lots more of them)and magical communities fighting a secret war behind the mortals' back, only except it's set in modern times. That, and the main protagonist is a dead man, brought back to life in skeletal form. But I finished those 5 books and was looking for the next awesome thing to read while waiting on book 6. And I curse myself for taking this long to purchase the Big D archive.
Neinball I know we're probably asking too much of the initial game release as far as Ureh is concerned BUT there have been many instances of standalone expansions in the gaming world. Take Crysis Warhead for instance. I would absolutely love to see an Ureh spinoff further down the road. Hell, ANY of the books from what I hear.
Ureh will not be part of the initial release of Diablo 3. But probably in an expansion.
I really hope to see Zayl he is so badass![]()
