We talked about this a bit during the new podcast, and came up with various possibilities.

RoF pierces (just like Disintegrate) but the chill/freeze property wears off instantly when the beam is no longer hitting.

RoF doesn't pierce, but you can add that with items or traits.

RoF improves in piercing with more skill points. Say slvl 1-4 it only hits one enemy. Slvl 5-8 it hits 2. Slvl 9-12 it hits up to 3. And so on.

I think piercing + lingering chill = wildly OP. But I guess we'll find out soon enough. (Pity there weren't monsters in the skill runes videos, or we'd know already.)

What if the chilling effect was reduced on the second, third, etc. targets? Much like Disintegrate has it's damage reduced on the second, third, etc. targets?

The videos I have seen where the Wizard used Ray of Frost didn't have it piercing anything.

Those might be from a low skill level.

I am not aware of any skill in the game that changes mechanics upon leveling up, so I doubt that's a reason.

LVL 1 skill could have 0% chance of piercing ...
LVL 4 skill could have 10% chance of piercing...
etc etc

That was from the 2008 wizard gameplay though, eh? It hardly looked like the same skill, as best I recall. Might be very different after 3 years of more development.

RoF will outperfom other "beams" with pierce, i think blizzard is aware of that and will not implement it

Quick question, will runes be socketed directly into the skill tree? Or in items like d2. Thanks.
