What do you guys think about D3 being optimized with nVidia 3D vision? I think that it would look pretty cool with the current art style, but only if they managed to keep the textures, etc. in high res.
Starcraft 2 works with it so I think the chances are fairly high.
WoW and SC2 both work with it, so that's pretty good evidence that D3 will be compatible as well. I'm sure we'll hear more from Nvidia at Blizzcon, they always have a both showing off their 3D setup there.
zOMG, watch out folks, incoming barrelsplinters!
If I manage to get into the beta, I'll post some stereo screens.
Blizzard has had pretty good support (albeit the portraits in SC2 are broken) but WoW is the best game I've played in terms of stereo 3D.
The multi-layer dungeons in D3 should be amazing. I tried titan quest but it wasn't really all that noticeable, but it was decent in torchlight.
i'd upgrade to 3d if it is compatible
It rather depends on the game. Usually, there's one thing guaranteed to be messed up (even in 3D "ready" games) and that's water. Another is certain types of bloom.
But overall, yeah, it's usually pretty good. There's only been one game I've played where I had to turn it off before my face melted and that was "Dungeons".
Optimization for 3D usually doesn't consist of very much, just making sure that stuff like the skybox doesn't look funky and that sort of thing. But it's a system draw since you're, in essence, drawing two frames instead of one.
The difference is that a movie is (largely/partly) 2D which makes it tough if it's not designed for 3D, while our games are already rendered in 3D and basically just need a driver to render the scenes from two different angles (or something like that). So like RR said there's a lot less non-3D parts (cursor/skybox/UI) to worry about.
