Hi all,
I've heard that Grief is the best weapon for a zealot with fantacism.
So my question is should I use Chains of Honor or Fortitude?
Does the 300% enhanced damage from Fortitude applies to the (+350-400) damage from Grief, or does it only apply to the base weapon damage (say 35-40, for phase blade) ?
Thank you very much.
There is no such thing like fantacism. My toenails roll up when reading it, brrr
Sreiously,: IMO a zealot usually has enough off-weapon %ed and options for +res/fhr/leech to choose a different armor, at least in PvM. He doesn't need CoH's +skills as well (or from Mara's, skillers or whatever else you might have on your zealot). I would use an Enigma armor which is excellent for both PvM (in particular solo organ/Über Tristram/Baal runs) and PvP.

It depends are you making a PvP or a PvM character.
I'd prefer fortitude on PvP, extra damage is always nice
To try and answer your question, if I am correct, the +350-400 damage from Grief is part of the "on" weapon damage and is included in the base weapon amount calculation. The damage calculation is pretty complicated and I dont have it off hand but essentially from what I understand most item abilites on your weapon are considered in the on weapon amount and that "base" amount is multiplied by all of your off weapon factors such as fanac, fort, and even a phoenix shield (another 350-400 ed). Personally my zealer runs with a eth botd zerker (mainly because I can't afford a greif at the moment), leviathen (sp?) armor, and an exile in a zakarum shield with all resistances. This set up allows for a lot of added strength from the armor and weap, damage reduction from the armor (if you dont have it elsewhere), and defense and res from the shield with the active defiance aura. Its all a matter of preference but there are multiple set ups that will work just fine for a zealer.
to be completely serious, a noble paladin in effort to minimize time taken from beast to beast, it is useful to employ enigma. however charge + vigor is most useful as well in such scenarios, though employment of the incredibly useful reaper's toll merc telestomp technique is impossible
My Zealot is usually PvM character but it can be used for PvP as well with same gear:
Vampire Gaze as a helm
Enigma as an armor
Exile as a shield
- Herald of Zakarum as a second shield with Baranar's Star
Grief as a weapon
- Second weapon is Baranar's Star for immunities to physical
Raven Frost and Bul Kathos' Wedding Band as rings
High Lord's Wrath as an amulet
String of Ears as a belt
Gore Rider as a boots
With this equipment you will complete Uber Tristram for about 3-6 minutes.
Griefs +dmg adds directly to the weapons basedmg. Thats why Phaseblades are the best base for Grief. (Indestructible+Fastest Att.Speed)
As mentioned already, any Crushing Blow you can get will help you alot. And Deadlystrike aswell. (Always fun to be able to just melt through enemies!)
Fortitudes +ed adds alot of dmg!
Frw(enigma)/@Res+Lifesteal(CoH)/CB(Duress) are just a few examples. Look into it, what do you need?
Peace
(Note* Always use Highlords for PH dmg dealers!)
Btw, if you're merc uses Reaper Toll you can get though the PIs with ease. I'm not sure how well Decrep works vs Conviction, but I have never had an issue with killing PIs while my merc casts Decrep.
