One of the main issues for me is MP games in the SPF. I put my static IP out there for people to come and then edit it out once the game is down. That increases my safety, in terms of computer security of course.
Furthermore, people there will edit their mp posts to indicate what's going on right now over the next few hours. Knowing that 3 hours ago a group of people were starting a1 normal is fairly useless info. They could be anywhere now.
I do remember this forum back when there was 1h limit. I remember there were concerns about abuse of the unlimited edit feature. To the best of my knowledge, none of them actually turned out to be relevant. Correcting guides, adding things like "edit: I was wrong here, see post 15", it all made the forum a much better place.
Tl;dr Yes, we need more time. It's a great feature, pros far outweigh the cons.
When it was set to to unrestricted (about two years ago?), I had concerns about people cheating in their trading threads, but mods also got access to the edit history, so that isn't a problem.
As said by numerous people, IMO we need this for an indefinitely long time.

I really need this feature too, because it allows me to keep a trade thread going after several days, especially when you need extra time to move large numbers of items,
and very valuable items may be added like a perfect sacred targe
I haven't played D2 in about 2 years. Just came back and as far as I can tell the trading forums here are the only ones that are really active anymore, at least out of the several I used to frequent when I last played.
Traders being unable to edit their original posts really makes it difficult to follow the progress of items/auctions, particularly if you're bidding on things in multiple threads.
We are active in The OTF and really I would prefer it back at the unlimited zone as I edit almost every post at least once (Dyslexic fingers) and often go back to refresh dead links etc.
Was there a overriding reason it was turned on again?
Here's another excellent reason for unlimited time edits: SPTF Giveaways.
Right now RobbyD is hosting a giveaway for all the items of BobTheWarrior. Giveaways are messy things. Up to 300-400 items leave one person's hands in a matter of about a week, two at the most. They are usually done in phases to make it more organized.
Now, unless you took part in one of those, or tried hosting one, you just won't get how much stuff is going on. It's hard enough to keep track of everything that's going on with unlimited editing. The person who gives all their stuff away has to keep readouts and lists of available items up to date. The receivers have to ask for stuff (and edit in details such as trader profile links and email addresses if they forget), report the receipt.
Without the unlimited edits such threads are twice as messy (double the posts) and the current lists of available items are buried somewhere in all the item exchanges. This is all happening on a pretty short time scale.
All this puts a lot of effort onto the person who gives stuff away. Do we have to make it harder for those generous people?

Elly, no offense, but I see absolutely no reason for turning it off in the first place. I will quote you here:
Basically, in my mind, from what you said, you played around with settings (probably for a very good reason) and (accidentally?) turned a very useful feature off. With no apparent forethought. People tried to get your attention for days now, saying unlimited editing is great and they want it back, and it's still not fixed.Originally Posted by Elly
Nor have you told us whether it will ever be fixed. Should we stop complaining and it'll happen? Or should we stop complaining because it'll stay at an hour's time for editing, no matter what we say? It'd be nice to know. Should I try to pile on more arguments for why unlimited editing is a good idea?
Many people are trying to convince you that it's a good idea. Why are we even doing that? Why do we need to?
The unlimited edit was turned on for over 2 years, I think. Maybe 1.5, I'm not sure. People use it, it's great. I haven't seen any mods complain about it. I haven't seen any problems caused by it (and if there were, the Mods cleaned the mess up). It's not a discussion about a feature that we think might be cool. It's a discussion about a feature that worked perfectly fine, for years.
Sorry if I sound a bit frustrated about this. I am.

Unlimited Edit please. Trade forums need this & without this feature, the forums will be flooded with multiple threads, and increase your server stress. tyvm
From the feedback seen (me included here), it seems that the 1hr limit is hurting the trade forums most. Not many mentions of other forums.
So, not to be a broken record, but I would also like the unlimited time back.
I probably agree with the other 3 pages of people above me. Personally, I mainly use these forums as a place to broaden my buying market without sitting on Bnet for what might seem like hours trying to find the not so common items I need(Zon or Zealot gloves for example). Without the edit feature, everyone will just make a new post every time they move an item in or out which will dramatically increase traffic on the trade forums. For someone like me, that's not good...
I like being able to quickly and easily find the thread where I bid on an item so I know what I owe and what I'm getting. It makes for more efficient mule trades. I can also see this being a head-ache for the sellers when they have multiple high-end items getting spammed with bids and items in the pgems-1 hr area in the same thread. Ultimately, I can't see any good reason to keep this change in action.
In addition to the giveaway I'm hosting that Greebo referenced (for which I DESPERATELY need editing), I also have a 1.09 Guide that I want to update with new observations on differences as I go through the game with my first 1.13 character. I've been updating that from time to time ever since I first posted it, and also did a major organization overhaul as it was quite helter-skelter in its original form.
Please allow editing!
