Welcome to the SPF Awards for 2010, live from the Worldstone Keep Theatre.
The stars are the SPF are making the way down the red carpet and into this fantastic venue which was carved by the Barbarians of Harrogath from the actual remains of the Worldstone. I can see OMG over there, or is it Joanna, talking to members of the Harrogath press. I have to say that he is looking fantastic tonight in a red silk ball dress. And slowly filtering in are some members of the Hardcore community. Some are looking a bit ghostly. One or two even seem to have arrived completely naked. Ah that one must be Insane Wayne. It's nice to see almost all of the nominees have managed to make it too.
The Etdlahq Memorial Bar has moved here tonight, away from it's usual location, especially for the occasion. More importantly Durf's Credit Card has made it too, and it is certainly seeing some serious use by the visitors.

Welcome to
The SPF Awards for 2010
live from the Worldstone Keep Theatre. Here is you host for the evening - maxicek
Thank you everyone and welcome once again to the SPF awards for 2010. 2010 was in many ways a strange year in the SPF. The looong wait for D3 continued, but with the new shoots of spring a fresh patch emerged and the SPF was gripped in a rune finding frenzy. We have seen probably ten times as many high runes in the last 10 months than we had in the history of the SPF previously. Some friends departed, some old friends returned, and of course some new ones joined. But it seems that, as the game ages, those leaving outweigh those that arrive. But enough reminiscing, lets get on with the awards, and I will try not to insult more people than Ricky Gervais at The Golden Globes along the way.
Best D2 Thread
The D2 threads last year were dominated by the coming of 1.13 - Thoughts on 1.13, Hopes for 1.14, builds for reaping the rewards of increased rune drops in 1.13. But throughout November and December, there was one thread that seemed to stay glued to the top of the first page.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best OT Thread
There were two threads that stood out from the OT threads, mainly because of their tragic subject. It was with great sadness that we learnt of the passing in RL of one of our newer members, UllaV, and the loss of one of our oldest member’s father and brother.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best Matriarch/Patriarch
There were eighteen nominees in this, the most hotly contested of categories. In a game this old it is surprising that anyone can come up with any noteworthy builds, but the SPF still keeps churning them out.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best Guardian
If is often said that you don't need high end gear to beat D2. In fact, to win the best Guardian category, it seems you don't need any gear. Once again, this year’s winner went naked.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best Collection
This was a new category, created mid voting. The intention was to allow the Best Mat / Pat / Guardian categories to be a comparison of single characters, as it can be difficult for a single build to compete against a collection.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best Tournament
With the heavy hitters of the Summer MFO and the 12 month marathon that was bassano's MF League in the category it was always going to take something special to win here.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best Guide
Amazingly there are still guides to be written about this game. As people loose interest in the post 1.10 patches, there always seems to be something new to discover from travelling into the past. The increased rune drops from 1.13 meant looking at how best to optimise characters for runefinding, an activity that a few months earlier had relied on luck, popping chests or visiting the countess.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best Screenshot
There were only two nominees in this category, and both were haul shots from the MFO. Uniques against runes, Thomh against Nagisa.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best Video
Once upon a time people though that a 2.10 Baal run was about as likely as the chance that people would would still be playing SP D2 in the year 2011. But these days it seems that a 2.10 Baal run isn't enough.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best Poster
If the best Mat / Pat / Guardian is the "Best Film" of the SPF Awards, then this category is surely the Best Actor. After the first round of judging it was down to two. One I don't strictly consider a mamber of the SPF, but seems to be a regular visitor these days, onderduiker, and one who I is truly one of our own.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best Newcomer
It seems incredible the winner only joined at the end of October and has only a little over 100 posts. He seems to have fitted well into the SPF though, in a very short time.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best Returnee
To paraphrase Mark Twain "The reports of my leaving are greatly exaggerated." I'm still not sure Pyro ever really left. True he gave away almost as much stuff as Nagisa, but I think he only reduced his PvM activities. Believe me he was still very much around on the Blood Moor, as anyone roasted by Sapphire or shredded by Fluffy_Kitten will testify. But all this is irrelevant, as he wasn't in the running for the votes anyway.
The winner is...Spoiler
Biggest Spammer
Now I know what you are thinking, that this award is the easiest to win - all you have to do is make lots of posts. But in fact biggest spammer is one of the hardest awards to win. It requires dedication throught the year, posting whatever possible, whenever possible. And of course to be crowned biggest spammer, you have to be careful not to post too much useful information. With such previous winner pancakeman in the category, competition was tough. The judges must have thought that OMG had posted too much useful information as he was pipped at the post in the final voting.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best Trader
. Best trader is not about the awesome giveaways, but about going out of your way to find something specific for someone who needs it, even when there may be comparatively little in it for you. There were only two nominees here, but in the voting it was almost unanimous.
The winner is...Spoiler
Best WTF?! Moment / Do'h Moment
Amongst some rare and strange moments in the SPF, one clearly stood out:
The winner is...Spoiler
Special Award for Outstanding Contribution to the SPF
Lifetime Achievement Award:
The final category for the night is a special award, given to someone who has furthered our knowledge or experience of the game, either by how they played the game themselves or contributed their knowledge to the community. Of all the nominees, it was down to two after the first round of judging. jiansonz, who I think is unique in the way he plays the game, and RTB, code cruncher extraordinaire.
The winner is...Spoiler
So that's it for this year, congratulations to all the nominees and especially, of course, to all those who won. Thanks to all the judges, and to you all for coming, see you at the after show party back at the EMB.
Until next year - Good Night!

Well done maxi, you clearly took the time to post the results in a creative manner, and it showed. I thoroughly enjoyed reading that. A few thoughts:
-Best Mat/Pat was sick, and I'm glad I got the opportunity to read that. Very interesting build, excellent use of a not-as-much-used (but expensive) runeword. I may have to give a Fendazon a go at some point.
-That screenshot of the rune haul from MFO by Nagisa is ridunculous...
-Shout out to RTB...I've been around the SPF (on an on-and-off basis, hehe) since 2003, so I've had the pleasure of reading through many of RTB's threads. I wholeheartedly agree that he has contributed immensely to this community and is very deservant of this award. Here's hoping that he'll make a triumphant return at some point.
-PP
Thanks so much for honoring me with "Best Returnee"! I really appreciate it, ladies & gents.
I'm really happy to see RTB getting the very deserved recognition for all his contributions. To this day, I sometimes wonder how something works, google it, search the forum, read some nonsensical answers. I search some more, a bit deeper, and more often than not, eventually arrive at an answer given by RTB in 2005/2007 or thereabouts. He's (I assume the gender) always spot on.

A very enjoyable read! I especially liked the "coded" closing credits - I wheeled through it for the true movie feeling! Amazing write-up, and amazing posts/links to be found here!Congratulations to all winners and nominees! Have a drink at the bar
Kudos to RTB - I can only echo Greebo. Speaking of...! Welcome back! [singing the Greebo song one last time]*want you back, want you back, want you back for good*[/singing]
So are you recognising that I post nothing useful? :P
I don't check into the front page of the forums as much as I used to, but if there's an e-mail alert for the EMB or the SPF Hamachi FAQ, I'm normally there (no Dew required). Dailies have been sporadic but still present, which is always good to know.
I apologise for not having been involved with the Awards or nominating, but I appreciate the recognition (I think). To those who were involved in organising this, especially maxicek, we salute you, it's what makes the SPF as homely as 192.168.0.1
Big props to Thyiad for doing what she does [/brownnose]. To all nominated and the winners, congratulations. Keep up the good work in 2011, and maybe some of you will turn from orange to purple to keep up the awesomeness that is the SPF.
What an absolutely fabulous presentation!
Thanks very much to the voters for my shared win!
I think the winner of the WTF? Moment category was a forgone conclusion.

Congratulations to the winners!
"Hoveround takes me where I want to go."
Great thread Max, and thanks to all who helped to pull it all together.
Excellent presentation, sir. Well done.
Very excited to see the LLD thread get some official accolades. After the MFO is over, we might just have to get it rolling again.
Many thanks to Max and Nagisa, congratulations to all the winners, and a special congratulations to RTB!
Thanks to all involved in putting this together, and just as imporantly to everybody who has contributed in some way or other to this community over the years. I never cease to be entertained, inspired, and generally awestruck by the quality of the content here.
Bravo!
