Using only what you can carry sounds fair enough. Losing two GCs never gimped any of my characters when carrying 'Call to Arms' in the inventory. As far as Thundergod's Vigor, it's fine. Some of my trappers used to do just fine in normal games with only ~ 5000 or 6000 maximum damage.
Oh, and if you feel some prizes would attract more attention, you could hand these out to your top three. maareek [allegedly] doesn't mind.
