    Excel Gear Planner

    Hi all!

I started, in Excel, a Gear Planner.

The idea is to have most (or all) gear choices listed as well as all the attributes they give.

It's simple to use, just mark with '1' the equipped gear and the excel lists all attributes that the selected gear gives.
    So no weird macros.

And to be shared with all the community.
(Please let me know if already exists somewhere...lol)

Right now it just needs three things:
    1) Correct formula to list needed str and dex (looks for the equipped items and returns max values)
    2) Finish listing attributes
    3) Finish listing gear choices

So I ask you all some things:
    - Who can help me with 1) (I used SUMIF to check what gear is equipped (marked with 1) and just sum the attributes, but I guess I need a IF and MAX to get the max and not sum, but I don't use excel that much and I must be making some noob mistake)
    - Who can tell me attributes that are missing (skill trees, for example) (oskills will be left out)
    - Who can share some time and help with 3) (adding stuff in excel)

And of course your ideas and feedback.

(add breakpoints? list weapon dmg calculations?)

I'll start sharing the excel as soon as I talk with Thy.

    Re: Excel Gear Planner

I think this is a cool idea.

I may be able help, as I deal with Excel often, but haven't dabbled in all of its features. I'll be sure to give it a shot provided Thyiad is cool with it.

Oddly enough, a lot of my excel dabbling deals with D2. I made an interesting grading feature on how I did on my Hellforge running project ala Dune's "Quest for Ber" project back in 1.10). It dealt mainly with run times, time conversion and summing of multiple times (normal, nightmare and hell). Could never get the times Dune and Nightfish achieved, and had the data to prove it! (I just made myself crack up).

Anyway - big thumbs up from me!

I use a similar Excel sheet called medieval-mart. It lists all items and their attributes and stats. Sounds like you are doing something a bit more comprehensive but it could be a helpful headstart. Can't remember where I d'led it from. Google will be ur friend.

If you need this i could just send it to you. However i renamed it, it contains my current grail standings and has an extra sheet to keep track of my pgems. Though all that can easily be cured and it saves you a websearch.

Though i'm not sure i completely understand everything you're planning on doing it sure sound like a good and fun thing. I like the initiative .

Personally i've been thinking the last few weeks of improving my perfect grail sheet with some VBA code (= macro). Basically because i'm trying to learn VBA since it's both helpfull at work times and it can be fun to do. And that seems like a way to improve my skill at it and make something i'd actually use.

I'm no Excelguru but i do know my way around there, so if you need help i'm more then happy to see if i can. And are you totally against using macro's or is it just because you don't know VBA? I think using macro's might make things a lot easier (might be wrong here).
Other than that i'd say that google is a big help. I made a macro for work and found a whole lot of things there i could adapt to my needs. Just type Excel followed by a few keywords to describe your problem and you're almost certain to find something on the subject.

    Re: Excel Gear Planner

Programs (including Excel sheets with macros) should not be posted because we cannot guarantee that they do not contain viruses or other harmful/non-acceptable features.

You may submit items to the Diablo files section. Inclusion into the files section does NOT mean it is acceptable within the SP MP/trade pool.

Please remember that the SPF/SPTF has a limited and specified number of accepted programs/mods. Anything not currently on that list should not come into contact with SP MP/trade pool.

I doubt there's any issue with your spreadsheet nulio as it does not use macros or come into contact with the game files. If it goes through the Diablo files section, I'm relatively happy to post it in the Stickies as a gear planner similar to Mursilis'.

We seem to be moving more towards mod making and I want to ensure that everyone realizes that it is not acceptable to make their own modifications, share them or get them into our MP/trade pool without clearance.

Anyone is free to PM me if they have questions.

    Re: Excel Gear Planner

Thanks for the link and all the clarifications Thy

    Just fixed the 1) thingy.

Talking and showing this to frozzzen, we noticed some difficulties (that I'll probably ignore for now):

    - Items with ranging values have to be edited manually (after the completion of the database - before all things have to manually added anyway and I think it's better to use perfect values)
    - I have no way how to add set total and individual bonuses
    - In runewords, adding base items...

The idea is this to help in most things but in things like CtC stuff, defense, damage... will be hard so probably it won't adress it.

The idea came when trying to decide the gear for a non-uber build, choosing between some uniques and mid-RWs, with so many picks I remembered I could easily made this in excel and try several combinations. And then I thought... I could share it and we could all add most items.

If this gets many atention and use we can then add dmg calculations (like fabian did for his trav runner), something to resolve set bonuses, ranging values and more stuff.

    Edit:
Using medieval-mart existing base would be also a good approach but I don't have the knowledge or time to study it, then add a way to choose the gear and show the results. It would be amazing certainly!

    Re: Excel Gear Planner

The link I had for medieval mart DL is no longer in use, but there is a similar Excell spreadsheet that many use for their 'perfect' Grail which is still available.

See this thread for the Dl link and details.

    Re: Excel Gear Planner

Thanks I can copy the item names from there, that'll help a little for sure.

Now that Thyiad mentioned mursilis' planner, I was never able to run the CharSi :( neither in winXP or MacOSX both with last java update. Probably it would be faster to google and post in CharSi's thread for help :P But I already started it, so I can at least show and share what's done.

    Re: Excel Gear Planner

There is a program called CharSi which is pretty powerful and mostly accurate. I would check it out if I were you.
