I could careless, I play diablo not because its story/lore for sure.
Congratulations on your grammar and on the fact that you just posted a "lol nn story/lore lol"- comment in the "Story and Lore" forum.
Fail.
@Topic: Thanks for clarification, Flux. The similarities with Mephisto remain undeniable, it's a Prime Evil Hybrid, i tell you!!
Speaking of hybrids add some tentacles to that thing and it could be the starcraft hybrid.
Yeah I always found it a bit nonsensical that my paladin and his merc were running into basically gods and giant demons and just hacking away, not taking damage, and shredding them apart. When my grief smiter just eats up baal it's like...uh....lol.
You're slightly off. In the Diablo games, it hasn't been a sole hero. This is all according to the Decard Cain journal.
In Diablo 1, it was a sole warrior who got to Diablo, but there were many adventurers who ventured down - so he didn't go killing everything alone. Supposedly, from what I've heard, the Sorcerer and Rogue were the Summoner from D2A2 and Bloodraven from D2A1 respectively - but there was also at least Marius, and supposedly more (surviving at least... and tormented).
In Diablo 2, it was a group of adventurers (presumably one of each class - Druid and Assassin may be solely for Expansion for canon lore), not a single one.
In Diablo 3, it will likely be once more a group of adventurers in canon lore. Of course, for game mechanic purposes, it will be soloable. I wouldn't doubt that, in canon lore, the heroes that we play as would be nephalim who find awakening abilities.
I recall reading somewhere that by D3's time, most of the heroes from D2 went insane from what they witnessed. Much like Marius, I assume.
Maybe, maybe not. It seems like in the first game, outside the three we could play as (I'm curious: is Hellfire a part of canon lore? I suppose that is something to discuss in this thread), everyone was just weak (mentally? physically? Either, or, both I say). In D2, you had stronger people (people on par to the three?) and more of them. According to in-game dialogue, there were "others" but who knows if that refers to the others in canon lore who killed everything.
While there isn't a perfect consistency in Diablo lore (tbh, that's an issue I've noticed with all Blizzard games I've played/looked into). Not to mention that there's a huge "discrepancy" when it comes to game mechanics and the fact that people could find and even create far-too-powerful items (this is directly pointed at viRTux).
The only thing I'm hoping for: the High Heavens take part in this war. I want some not-too-good-for-holiness-angels fighting against the demons as well as myself.
Hellfire is not Lore.
As for what happens to the Heroes of D2 no one really knows apart from Blizzard (apart from the Barb? dunno if Bliz changed there minds or not).
I`m very interested in knowing the story to the game.
