Re: Hey Bookworm, What Are You READING?

Just finished Richard A Knaak's "Sin War" trilogy for the third time; I must say multiple readings add more depth to it, especially with what I've gleaned from The Book of Cain.

I've still got Return of the King to read (again) but have veered off to read Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon. I'm kinda burned out on fantasy for now.

Re: Hey Bookworm, What Are You READING?

You Guys Read Mary Stewart's quintet of Arthurian novels?

    The Crystal Cave (1970)
    The Hollow Hills (1973)
    The Last Enchantment (1979)
    The Wicked Day (1983)
The Prince and the Pilgrim (1995)

I highly recommend the first 3
    Last two not so much.

Just finished the last book in The Starbuck Chronicles (no, not about coffee), during which I polished off After America (which I referenced earlier).

Have been reading Jim Butcher's Dresden Files books. Not exactly classic lit but fun as hell.

    Iron Sunrise by Charles Stross.

A sidenote: I recommend all book lovers to make an account at goodreads.com. It gives excellent recommendations once you've rated the books you've read and chosen your favorite genres. I've got 30 books lined up I'd never have found otherwise.

    Edit
    Vernor Vinge
and not Fast Times at Fairmont High !

His Sci Fi stuff was groundbreaking

his 1993 essay "The Coming Technological Singularity", in which he argues that the creation of superhuman artificial intelligence will mark the point at which "the human era will be ended," such that no current models of reality are sufficient to predict beyond it.
“ Within thirty years, we will have the technological means to create superhuman intelligence. Shortly after, the human era will be ended. ”

I just re-read A Fire Upon the Deep

    Still good
