If you get different amounts of money each month, make a tax declaration, you will most probably get something back! Also, the state will probably force you to do one if they can expect additional payments from you, so the fact that they don't do that is a strong hint that it's the other way around.

Ask a few friends for a tax program to find out how much it is. It can be an old one, as it's just for trying at first and not for a real tax declaration. They often give advice about what you can deduct. It makes things much easier as well. You can usually take the declaration from last year, change a few things and print it. It will also print the needed forms (so you don't have to run to the office for them) and it's usually 10 minutes of work, so even $30 might be worth it. I'm doing it like that since 1998.

Actually, finding the documents in my document filing system (called "the big post heap") is the challenge and just as exciting, a game like "will I find it or will I waste a significant amount of money for missing the deadline?".

i've seen Ron White on tv. and while i do enjoy him (and still feel like he's going to come out thru the tv and molest/rape me with a loving look in his eyes...), i don't care for the other redneck comedians. i don't like redneck humor period! i guess because i feel i can go back to my crappy hometown and watch REAL LIVE redneck comedy there in the street or in the middle of town square, i don't care for any of it.

You can deduct a fixed amount per work day and per kilometer for the way to work here and I have a 30km way to work. I can also deduct extra pension payments of €1600, they are promoted by the state. It's for two years BTW, 2008 and 2009. Some call it laziness, I call it patriotism and regard it as a 1-2 year loan with 0% interests

This morning, the woman at the tax office looked through the forms and said it's all OK, so the chance is pretty high that the numbers from the program match the payment .

LOLZ! I thought you were familiar with Ron White! That's his 'alias' he got with the cops when he was younger. He got arrested for something, and they asked if he went by any other names, and he told them "Tater Salad" to screw with them. Well, it went in the computer, and he got arrested again years later and the cop asked him if he was Ron... "Tater Salad" White!! He rolls with it now and uses it in his act as his nickname.
