Maybe it's a localization thing.

You might remember the question about localizing your DVD player when you bought your computer, right? You probably answered it with "North America" which prevents the playing of DVDs which are meant for a different continent. It's complete BS, as it obviously doesn't prevent movie pirates from anything at all while only the honest customers suffer from it. But maybe we aren't customers for them, only sheep which are clipped once a year.. and are happy about it.

Send back the DVD and boycot the company which produced it, at least for a while. Of course, you are just one person and it might not change their policy, but it feels better for you that way. For example, I for myself didn't buy anything from Acer in the last 2.5 years (and see no reason to do it again soon) because of the crap computer which they tried to sell to me and their dilettantic repair attempt (which effectively destroyed it) - which needed 5 weeks BTW. Luckily, the seller sent me the money back with no questions asked.

For humans, it feels good to have somebody to hate, in particular if they believe to have a good reason for it. Just writing about it here makes me angry again!

A- People who act like they're on a first-name basis the moment they find out what your first name is. My best colleague/friend in Germany and I NEVER used each other's first names.

B- The subset of the above individuals who not only feel they should treat you like a long-lost cousin, but then decide to abbreviate, maul, or otherwise use a different name than your proper first name. It reeks of the "Interview with Sir Edward Ross" Python skit.

Yes, I'm uptight. Our society could use a bit more straight lacing.

EDIT - interesting; I just was able to see the "God Bless America" movie Bob linked. I think I'll need to see it. However, there's something I wonder if Goldthwaite (sp) identifies in the end? See, all kinds of people really DO deserve to die. Really, pretty much everyone - me included*. It's when we start making those judgements that we cross into "judge not lest ye be judged".

* I've done or thought a tiny number of actually despicable things, as opposed to the stuff I'm hated for online. Such as essentially threatening a child with a pistol. Or psychically programming a co-worker to insult a moron, rather than just be honest and face the moron myself. Extenuating circumstances are more or less the same as excuses; we make up rationale to excuse our animal side.
