Keep them separate IMO, I wouldn't want to be tainted by any of those dirty Vanilla items tbh.![]()
I'm new here, so i don't know much about the Vanilla/FAM arguing. As soon as I knew there was something that could make me use the ladder only runewords on SP, i went FAM.
Why? Because it's more fun. I enjoy the game to it's fullest (well, not the fullest because SP doesn't have ubers, etc).
So i don't really understand why people don't go FAM... But of course, i totally respect their decision.
This discussion isn't just pertinent to 1.14 but more so, I'd say, the transition D2 has taken over time, where we are now and where we may be in the future. All of them are linked and patterns have emerged over time (such as SP getting left outside in the cold whilst Battlenet tucks into a lovely hot roast) so discussion to test the waters for the future is always good.
I have never played Vanilla (in 1.11+ versions, that is) and never intend to, but I would prefer that the ability of those who do to trade and MP be protected.
One question occurs to me after reading this thread:
Why don't we have sepparate 1.13c FAM/Vanilla MP threads?
That would take the possibility of accidental taint away.

PS. Or maybe like 4 threads:
(1) 1.13c SC FAM
(2) Other Versions SC FAM
(3) All Versions SC Vanilla
(4) All Versions HC all mods
I think that forcing vanilla players to switch to FAM is silly, impossible, and not really the point. The question is should we simplify the common case (FAM - at least as far as trading and MP is concerned). I believe this would simplify trading and MP'ing for most while not making it any more difficult for vanilla players (who would declare their status exactly as they do now.
The Vanilla players have generally made that decision for a reason (from Darkooo's comment I guess its the feeling of superiority that they enjoy) and know what they are doing enough to not accidentally trade with a FAM player.
Granted I rarely MP or trade, but at least for the tourneys it would be much simpler to not mess with the tags and simply assume that the HC and vanilla crowd will make sure they know what they are doing. Then again, we all know what assuming leads to.
I switched over when the runewords became "activated" rather than "added in".
Given that one of the key principles here has pretty much always been "whatever you do on your computer is between you and Diablo", it doesn't bother me a bit that some choose to play vanilla. I think with the increased rune drops in the 1.13 patch, many vanilla players will come out into the light to take advantage of the runewords the FAMs allow access to. If they choose to remain vanilla and be satisfied with the 1.10 and 1.11 runewords, so be it.
Someone has to play a Dreamadin so it might as well be me.
I went strictly self found back when 1.11 came out, specifically so my items wouldn't be tainted by RRM or RWM (Btw, what do FAM and CRM stand for? They must have become commonplace in the last two years, but I haven't been here).
In any case, I will continue to play self found, vanilla. I guess (to me), it boils down to if you want the BNet runewords, play on BNet. I would LOVE for the BNet only runewords to be "unflagged" as it were, for SP, but if it never happens, so be it! I guess I'm a stickler.![]()
What feeling of superiority? I decided to play Vanilla in HC because it's an extra challenge and not because I have a need to feel "above" everyone else. Do jiansonz and InsaneWayne play the game in their own way because they want to be superior to others or because they enjoy it?
FAM = Forum Approved Mod ... such as the Rune Mod, Red Rune Mod (RRM), Color Rune Mod
CRM = Color Rune Mod
Interesting to note that the effects of the Red Rune Mod were actually added to the 1.13 patch.
Will the 1.14 patch make Ladder Only runes available in Single Player? Or perhaps Uber Tristram? Better start on that SmiteAdin build.
