Hello, I've got a shield with 60% blocking and +30% to block from holy shield, though with HSactive I only see 75% when I mouse over the shield. Can the HS skill not boost blocking on the shield over 75%?
I know that the total chance to block factoring in level and dex cannot exceed 75% but some shields get over 75% on the shield itself, e.g. Whitstan's. Is this just a limitation of HS? Thanks!

Even the shields with over 75% only show 75%. Holy shield allows for over 75% before the calculations, as do other increased block sources
That is only a base block to work with. It does not guarantee that the total block will equal what the shield says. Without HS, it's usually much lower.
Use this to find your blocking %.
Ah, ok. So it's a "lying shield screen." =)
Thanks, folks!
Well, it's not really lying in this case - blocking is dependent on several factors, and is almost never equal to the value listed on the shield itself.
As others have said, four things factor into blocking %: Your characters level, your dexterity, the base blocking percentage on the shield, and any increase chance to block you have on your equipment and/or skills. While you can never get your final blocking percentage over 75%, the 30% bonus you get from Holy Shiled does "count" in the formula. So while you'll never get over 75%, you'll require less dexterity to get to that 75%.
Aldeth, I think you misread what I wrote. Or perhaps I was unclear. I'm well aware that level and dex factor into the final chance to block, as I said in the OP.
The details that appear when you mouseover the shield are indeed lying, or intentionally incorrect, as they are misleadingly capped at 75% even when the game's blocking calculations use a higher value. This happens even in cases where Holy Shield is not used, e.g. Whitstan's Guard should display values higher than 75% but it too is capped.
In the end, HS has its full effect even if it isn't shown on the shield. I was just trying to confirm that using a shield with a high base chance to block isn't wasted (i.e. the value used by chance to block calculation isn't capped).
Thanks!
That's right, the display value limit is probably a leftover from the first game versions, when your shield's block value was your total block and there was no formula (and thus made sense it was capped at 75%). It still works that way in classic, but can be misleading in LoD where the formula is applied to calculate your block chance.
