The .7z file works just as a zip file. Simply rename the extension to .zip (instead of .7z) and all should be good on that front.
If you can open the files within GoMule, you should be able to save them as well. This may sound silly, but did you make sure to hit the "Save All" button (the disc in the toolbar) before opening your character again?
I did save it. Now whenever I go in and say, move a potion into a stash, then save it, the error "Could not create backup dir." followed by tons of lines of text, pops up.
On the RWM front, I click the file, rename to a zip, then it is a zipped folder. I cant extract all files because there is nothing in the folder it says. Do I just drop that folder into the d2 directory then?
Ahh, I'm guessing you moved to Vista/7 from XP? That problem in GoMule is caused by outside programs not having the ability to write to "Program Files" (and "Program Files (x86)" in 64-bit) with User Account Controls enabled. You can either disable that (not recommended) or re-install Diablo II to a folder outside your "Program Files" folder (e.g. your User directory).
It appears you're correct. The file must actually be in the .7z format instead of a re-named .zip, which is odd. In that case, you'll need to install 7-zip. When that is installed, you should be able to Right-click the .7z file, open the 7-zip submenu from the menu, and chose "Extract Files here...". Then copy the Runeword folder from the extracted folder into your Diablo II installation, create a shortcut to your 'Diablo II.exe', and add "-direct -txt" to the "Target" line, just as you had to do on XP.
Ok got the runewords worked out. I am new to this whole 7z or whatever file type. Windows seven is all new to me really. I had vista on my last one actually. But yeah, that worked thanks a lot.
As for gomule, I have to reinstall it huh? No faster method?
Okay first are you running as an admin? I'm guessing that you are not. That is probably the root of your problems. I would suggest moving the Diablo 2 folder outside of the program files folder and into say your 'my documents' folder that way you will not have these issues. Put your GoMule folder into the 'my documents' folder as well.
The reinstalling is for Diablo II, not GoMule. It's attempting to create a backup folder in the D2 save directory, but doesn't have permission because of UAC. I'm not sure how to elevate GoMule to Administrator off the top of my head, but that might work as well. The faster method would be to disable UAC entirely, but that does limit the user-based security of Windows 7.
As for the .7z, renaming to .zip and using Windows 7 built-in Zip Extractor doesn't work (at least mine isn't working with Ultimate) in this circumstance because the RWM for 1.13 is compressed using LZMA (e.g. the .7z format) to encode the file.
Yeah! It all works! Thank you very much.![]()
Glad it's working. Moving OSes isn't always smooth. We need a "Read this before installing to Windows 7!!!!" thread so people know to install outside the "Program Files" folder and avoid these issues.
Hahaha, that would be useful. Or maybe just a sticky of all the OS pro's and con's type deal. Windows 7= do this and that, windows vista= do this not this kinda thing....
SOMEONE DO IT!
Thanks again!
Me again. Now I am unsure what exactly happend this time.
Everything was working good, I was happy and all. I beat andy, then logged out to mule some more.
I opened GoMule, then loaded up my char file. Except what it loaded was my character, 2 levels lower, with items on her I had sold or already put into a stash. So I went into my D2 save folder, deleted the save files, and was going to restart.
I get on, and there is the sorceress. I click on her, it starts to load, and....lets me play.
If I can play her, where is her save file? How can I get it into GoMule to transfer, etc? Should I just make a new sorc now?
