I decided to uninstall LOD and try the original Diablo 2 for fun (haven't played it in 12 years). Immediately I see how ridiculously easy LOD is in comparison. I made a Sorc and forgot you can't buy mana pots from vendors. That changes early game strategy big time! Also, the value of spending your points early is a must. It is a lot tougher to "save points." Also, my reward for killing a unique such as Bimbosh... one blue. WOW! In LOD he would drop much more.... I am currently level 6 running around the cold plains looking for mana pots.... I guess I'll have to find a good meelee weapon for a while.![]()
So true and yet, so much fun.
The joy of finding a 2 socket scepter, sticking 2 chipped gems in it and keeping it, in case you want to give other characters the easy start this one had.
Classic, where a runeword is a weapon missing the s in the middle.
Im not sure if you know that classic 1.13 is a bit easier than 1.00; also it has the same skill system as in LOD (+the higher resolution)
1.00 is a very much different game, even when compared to classic 1.13
If u want less buggy, try to find 1.06d patch. Might be available at blizz site somewhere.
Anyways, imo the game was so great before LOD changes also came to the Original game.
Just remember, in the Arcane Sanctuary, when you kill the Summoner you MUST go through the red portal and get the Waypoint at the canyons. If you don't, the red portal never appears again. In single player, this is a show stopper because you can't go any further in the game. If I recall, that was one of the first big bugs that had to be patched. Anyone else remember that?

It's funny the flaws in the older versions are now seen as positive thing![]()
Probably because instead of having to complain about game being too easy or getting some of the good gozu (so to speak) around you have to sweat your arse to even get past some early stuff. It's same with Diablo 1, part of the satisfaction is the unfairly notorious difficulty![]()
