When do the effects of the element-enchanted bosses apply?

I just met a fallen shaman that was cold enchanted. Judging by the fact, that all my skeletons that were around him as well as me(fishy) got chilled and damaged each time he cast his firebolt thingy, I assume, he also cast an invisible frost nova that is supposed to only get cast at the moment of his death. Is this correct? Does this also apply to other casting monsters? What other effects get cast? Fire-enchanted explosions?:O When are they cast? Some other situations?

What formation were you? If you were bunched together, it's likely due to the fireball itself.

I don't know 100%, but from what i've seen, they act like the spectral hit ones where they apply their enchantment to the attacks.

There was something unusual about FE's that sometimes made them trigger the death explosion while alive.

We weren't tight enough to be affected by the fireball(is it really a ball, and not a bolt?). I was ~1/3 screen away, the shaman was surrounded, and some skellies were quite a few steps away fighting fallens.

The other mod he had was lightning enchanted(two mods, since it was nightmare) though, so I could've misinterpreted it, and it could be that he released those novas along with the bolts.

lighting enchanted means that with every hit he takes, he releases charged bolts in all direction. because his also cold enchanted, each lighting bolt also does cold damage, there for chilling everything it hits.

but that would still require me getting hit by lightning bolts to get chilled, and it shouldn't happen when the shaman was surrounded(skellies should've absorbed all bolts), and I didn't see any bolts flying around... Although that wouldn't be the the first time some attacks were invisible(server-client lag or something)...

Re: When do the effects of the element-enchanted bosses apply?

In Nightmare and Hell, cold damage is also added to the attacks of the minions of a Cold Enchanted Unique. This cold damage doesn't get added to the lightning bolts emitted by a Lightning Enchanted Unique: however, whenever the Unique is put into hit recovery (either by damage or being stunned or knocked back) it will release the frost nova which should only be released on death (the same applies to Fire Enchanted explosion damage when the Unique is FE LE).

Ah, so that's what happened. Thanks for clarification I assume those explosions/novas are invisible?

Re: When do the effects of the element-enchanted bosses apply?

The explosions and novae aren't displayed graphically, but their damage and chill length have a visible effect. Probably the most dangerous occurrences of this bug are when you put a Fire and Lightning Enchanted Unique into hit recovery repeatedly in quick succession, or a FE Unique Scarab Demon and its minions, since the minions also release explosions on hit recovery... a careless War Cry Barbarian surrounded by them can die very quickly.

On a related note, if a Unique spawns Fire and Cold Enchanted, then two explosions and two frost novae are released upon death.
