This character was born as a part of Hector’s tournament: Septavariate. Ben is my first Guardian in this project, so that means 1/7. This tourney doesn’t have any restrictions, only to play untwinked. And that’s exactly what I do and what I like, I can’t ever imagine to play HC twinked. And it is a nice change, to not have any further restrictions as in other tourneys, so I can play without stomach-ache.

The beginning of the game was classical, at first melee necro, then Bone spear necro with CE and huge mana problems. But this was getting slowly better. The damage was good and on higher players setting leveling went well. It was possible to re-run areas in this tourney, but I didn’t want to do some bigger MFing or rune hunting on purpose, I wanted to move ahead. So first noticeable improvement in gear happened in the end of NM. So this were Ben’s best items for the most of Hell difficulty.
Bone necro is quite powerful for untwinked playing, I would recommend that even over classical summoner, as summoner is very slow. Combination of quite high damage and Golem+Bone armor+Bone prison makes him very safe. And it is quite big difference to have or to not have synergized Bone prison. It feels almost lame to say that I just imprisoned any even slightly dangerous bosspack and felt safe and comfortable (and thanks to Teleport charges even merc felt often safe and comfortable : D). It fully absorbed also any LE spells (of course I don't mean gloams), and pleasant surprise was that even for example Mephisto was nicely helpless. Not many untwinked chars can feel so much easy in their life.
In act 4 another unexpected improving in gear – Harlequin Crest from Lord de Seis! That was really wow. Although Ben started to wear it from act 5, as he needed light+fire resist from his previous circlet for fight with Diablo. Diablo was quite easy , but with few hot whiles. The tactic was simple, run to the middle, cast golem there, then move a bit aside and when Diablo appears cast decrepify and imprison him. This startegy quite worked, the only hot while was when Diablo did the same - imprisoned Ben. Man, that prison is tough! Gladly he was also imprisoned, so he couldn't come any closer and with casting golem in opposite direction than Ben was standing was possible to divert his fire and light attack from Ben. That wasn't pleasant situation, but also that was the worst thing what happened. Diablo went down quite fast with Bone spirits then.
Act 5, my favourite act, went nicely. Good was even battle with Ancients. The easiest one in my HC career, I would almost say it was a pleasure. Again huge Bone prison ruled here. Only Korlic, of course, was hunting Ben at first. When he died, two others Ancients ended like this - poor guys- Talic and Madawc. I had to laugh at them. If I imagine how my other HC untwinked chars suffered here...this was a revenge!
The rest was easy. Even gloams weren't any problem. Waves = Bone prison (lame me). Baal = Decrepify + Golem (cloning didn't help him).
Best drops: Harlequin Crest, Rockstopper, Lycander's Aim (= from hell Baal)...all HC grailers

I used both attacks, depending on situation. For act bosses or big targets as Ancients, I used Bone Spirit exclusively. In places like Flayer Jungle Bone Spear was more handy.
And vs. regular packs I used 2 general startegies:
(1) to kill as first boss with Bone Spirit (often with namelock), especially to eliminate some nasty boss
or
(2) use Bone Spear for whole pack, boss went down slower, but at least minions were also half-dead
I played hell p1, so the damage seemed to me wonderful (especialy in comparision with some my previous untwinked chars). And mana was an issue for me also, even with Insight he had to drink mana pots! :rolleyes: Finding Harley solved this problem then.

I can imagine that a bone necro can be interesting for untwinked HC; nice balance between offensive and defensive skills, and not so hugely dependant on items.
