My take on the Female Monk

Since speculation regarding the female monk is at its top i thought i might as well draw my version of her before the long awaited reveal by Blizz.

I also researched a little bit regarding female Buddhist monks ... still found the best fit for our D3 monk to be a variation of the current Monk outfit.

And also regarding pixie hair-cuts and picked a variation of it that fitted her look the best (as Blizz already said she won't be bald like the real-life female monks and will have a pixie hair-cut).

Might add another version of her with a higher grade outfit/armor.

I like her a lot, in particular the colours used here. The only area I'm not so sure about are the arms, they seem tiny.

Good call on the pixie cut.

    Agh... muscley woman... agh...

It isn't bad, but I do believe that a female monk wouldn't show her torso like that.... Of course we're on the gamers world where are girls look supposedly nice and hot, but eh... It's just not monk-like.

Don't forget she could look half-russian half-asian; just to fit the whole east meets west thingie.

The fact is that Blizz most likely wants to make the female and male versions look different. If they both wear baggy clothes only thing seperating them is the bald head and beard...

And yes, the look on this pic is too anime-like, but lets remember that drawing faces is damn hard and when you toss in racial differences, it gets really hard.

Thanks ... i also agree about the tiny arms thing, i was trying to get them to look both muscular and feminine at the same time as opposed to the big bulky arms of the male monk but it seems i overdid it

Really !!! she is just athletic ... that also means you are pretty much traumatized by the Female barb ... she is like 4 or 5 time more muscular and bulky XD

Having large beards like the male monk isn't monk like either (along with many other things about him that has nothing to do with real life monks), but we must not forget that we aren't talking about real life monks ... so a bunch of little twists here and there is more than expected.

I quite disagree, both the male and female Barbs look very similar in clothes ... same goes for the Witch Doctor M & F versions ... the only two that really look quite distinctive are the male and female wizards ... but even those two will probably end up looking similar once they tack on some magic robes.

Besides ... what i have shown here is my idea of how the basic female monk look should be like ... i already made other versions of her other armor grades .. she will eventually end up quite different from her male counterpart.

I actually intentionally didn't want to make her look Asian since the Wizard already has that look reserved .... so i kept her race ambiguous and added a dark skin tone to mix things up (the male monk too has a orange/brownish skin)

And yeah, my style is anime-influenced but still it is like this because i like drawing like this more than typical realistic style.

Thanks for the feed back everyone and expect more female monk art very soon

Although i do understand it is a matter of personal taste ... but there are two things i can't prevent myself from saying.

-My take on the Monk here and even the Female Barb while having toned bodies aren't really what i'd call really muscley women they still retain their femininity .. specifically the in-game model for the female barb .. not the art work.

You obviously haven't seen how muscley women really look like .. (imagine Schwarzenegger tried to merge with the hulk but suffered a rejection reaction and turned female ... it's a scary sight and can't be unseen .. so no links .. try google on your own risk) ... in short even the female barb is quite tame compared to what muscley women really are .. so much that some muscely women arms could compare to the size of the female barb thighs !!!

-Second, i might not like muscular women for example or other certain aspects in real life ... but i don't think this should in any way factor in my reaction towards fictional character designs ... there are other factors to take in account here (personality, fashion design, .. etc etc).

    ------------------------------------------

Well .. now that i said what i wanted to say .... here is an update regarding my take on the female monk ... here she is wearing a higher grade armor than the above pic .... i also might draw a heavy armor look some time later.

    Hope you like it ^_^

I know, I know kid... No need to bash me on this one, it was just a random comment, in the way of funniness, not actually related to serious talking about your drawing...

    ---

That cape is lovely, and I must admit that such a headgear does look well on a monk class. Nicely done. (Just a random question, shouldn't the beads be a bit bigger?, you wouldn't be able to see them ingame from the isometric view; it's not needed though)

Thanks, as for the beads, i thought i'd make them look more like a necklace to give a more feminine feel and make her look varied from the Male Monk ... i wonder how Blizz guys will handle this .. can't wait to see the "real" Female Monk

Mwahaha... I'm actually 18, but I just can't stop adding "kid" to my sentences, it's a bad habit. People usually think I'm older than them in real life, so it works with my real me.
