Go to My computer, hit F3, type *.d2s, wait.

Or if you're using Vista - Hit the windows key, type %appdata%. Check the virtualstore folder.

Then re-install D2 somewhere outside the program files folder.

If none of those things work, provide more details - OS and D2 install path for starters.

If you're playing on-line, you don't get a save file.

I've got the same problem... The \save folder is empty, and no .d2s file is to be found. In fact, my character name without the extension is also not found.

I play DII LOD 1.12 on Vista...

If you can't find your character files in your save folder they'll be stored in your user roaming data folder. (Which is hidden of course.)

Open your windows explorer and enter the the following path.
    C:\Users\username here\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Diablo II

Be sure to put your user name in the part where it says "username here"

The reason why windows is putting your save files there instead of the save folder is, that your user login doesn't have full access to the save folder.
