The best times in my life have been the result of (or resulted in) the smashing of furniture with hammers and sledgehammers.

This was a worthy rez.
What's this "dignity" you claim to have? However, I think Noodle's post more apropos:
Yeah, I got dragged out to drive to Connecticut, while still fighting a massive head cold. My son's a great kid; he wanted to buy me XCOM for the XBox and I feel bad having shot him down over it (I want him to save his money). We bought a cover for the iPad Mini he's getting as the "big one" for Christmas. Wife got a couple of things from LL Bean. I bought some points for DDO.
Meh. This orgy of consumerism is a pretty disgusting phenomena IMO.

In my case, I made the mistake of accepting a bunch of giveaways when neighbors moved out years ago. It was therapeutic breaking things down, but I shouldn't have taken in their old junk in the first place. Now, I just have one table, a desk, and my queen sized bed (hell yeah). My goal is to get the place to echo, like when I moved in. Hopefully, a lady won't move in and start hanging things on walls and hauling in shelves of junk. Everything is so much easier to dust/clean when it doesn't exist.
And beware: breaking things is addictive!
"Dignity" - not mingling with impatient shoppers who have no respect for themselves or anybody else. Watching normally decent people run, push, shove, curse each other, trample each other and generally behave worse than their own crotchfruit would even dream is something I'd rather not participate in - or even observe. It's shameful.
We agree on something! Ha, I consider this an early XMas present.
I wholeheartedly agree that less is more. Most of this summer was spent cleaning out my house (which included donating useful furniture and other stuff to goodwill and smashing/burning what wasn't worth it). I'd be perfectly content living in a micro house if I decided to get out of the sticks.Originally Posted by stillman
Sorry, mate. The link is working for me. Just back up to post #3 of this thread (which was posted in 2009).Originally Posted by stillman

they moved a bunch of sales to actually be on Thanksgiving, which pissed me off, sick of all this holiday creeping, so I didn't do any shopping out of protest/contempt
I did my shopping at Tractor Supply.![]()
