I have a cookie cutter SP HC Meteorb just entering A2 Hell. She has 3 skill pts to spend, and I was wondering about the best way to spend them to boost my fire damage. I went to a certain German skill damage calculator and it said that the best way to boost my damage was to put the points into mastery. This confused me, as I thought that masteries boosted damage AFTER calculating in the synergy bonus(es).
The specifics: 20 FBall/Meteor, 1pt in pre-reqs and FM. EDIT - This is with +7 Fire skills (+6 all, +1 fire from Magefists).
The calculator said (correctly) that my base damage averages were:
FBall: 2306
Meteor: 6018
With the 3 pts in FM:
FBall: 2576
Meteor: 6018
With the 3 pts in FBolt:
FBall: 2552
Meteor: 5780
So, my question. Do masteries add % after synergy bonuses, or are they added to synergy bonuses, as suggested by the calculator?
Thanks,
TehSpud
They are added after synergy boni. Well, to be exact, the forumula is:
Base (fireball or meteor) damage * synergy boni * mastery boni.
The reason points in FM gives more damage in your case is because the [base damage * synergy] part is already high, so the multiplier effect is greater on the FM. (the calculator calculates it right, btw)
I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, that the basic rule of thumb is you want your mastery bonus to be about equal to your total synergy bonus percentage-wise
Nope, tested it on a skill calc and that is not the case, not anywhere close to it, in fact. On a +10 skill lvl sorc with 20 fireball and 40 points between mastery/synergy, the optimum came to be:
30 synergy, 10 mastery (so 20 mastery total), with 420% synergy bonus and 163% mastery bonus.
