Question A couple of quick werebear questions

I was gonna wait till the ladder reset to try a werebear druid, but since who knows when that will be, I decided to start it off today. I'm going to do a werebear with pets, that is dire wolves and a grizzly for bosses. I'm going to use maul as his main attack, with hunger and shockwave for support. I just have a couple of questions about werebears in general:

Which is better to use, a one-handed weapon or two-handed? I realize faster attack speed is key for a werebear, but what about a shield? So basically I'm asking is it better to have a fast attack with a shield or a slightly slower but higher damage attack with a two-hander?

Also, if I'm using heart of wolverine as my spirit, do I need to worry about dex much at all (besides enough for gear)? I guess this also ties into my question about shields.

Thanks in advance, I'd love to hear what you guys think!

P.S. I'm playing him untwinked so I'm not concerned with specific gear, just a general consensus.

This is a kind build you can pull of cheaply (look for towndump werebear guide in the stickies), but not without specific gear.

Bears block really slow. Wereforms do not attack slower with 2 handers everything else considered equal. Never invest in dex for AR alone.
