Ya'll need the Leeroy achievement.
I'm not contradicting myself I think you just have trouble understanding simple concepts. o_0
Your having trouble understanding the difference of something that you can attach an intrinsic cash value to vs. something with sentimental value or more theoretical value. Its like attempting to assign a cash value to solo climbing Everest.
You almost sound like the type a person who would charge their child for hugs at this point.
"Well you see my boy, all things cost money. And money is the only way something can have value. So if you can't afford a hug you better save up pal."
when did I bring up cash?
i just meant that there's no difference between a "Killed Baal 100 Times" achievement and you keeping a tally sheet of how many times you killed Baal, if all you care about is the personal satisfaction of having killed Baal 100 times.
No need to spend coding time on things like that when there are bugs to squash and balance to achieve and new content to be added.
I feel like I am trying to explain color to a blind person.
There is a huge difference between you keeping tally marks of everything you do vs. getting achievements.
The problem is that if they are only collectibles I can't think of any achievement worth having. What do I care if you killed 500 zombies or drank 2000 potions?
Achievements where the reward is the achievement itself doesn't seem that entertaining.
I guess the best way to describe them would be, this way.
Think about running a race and at the end of that race you get a medal. Now the medal has no monetary value whats so ever. But for some reason you keep it and you feel a sense of accomplishment every time you look at it.
You dont get a medal for helping poor kids learn to read. But that still gives you a sense of satisfaction, if thats your thing....
Using your medal example...the medal is a souvenir, when you see it it brings to mind the memories of your achievement, and recalls the sense of accomplishment you felt on that day. Are you going to have nostalgic memories about your 100th Baal killing every time you open your Achievements panel and see that 64x64 icon lit up? Are you going to live through that Baal run again in your mind? Probably not as much....
Guess what I'm trying to say is, why do you need a video game to tell you how awesome you are to feel awesome? You're equally awesome either way.
Erk now i hate the word 'achievement'
