I installed the multiplayer hellfire: fixed mod, however, when I try to create a multiplayer character it says 'unable to create character'. Anyone know how to fix this?
Did you patch up to 1.01 and did you do the things listed on this page?
Yes. I used the 1.01 patch and I've tried the mod with and without the command.txt. I've been playing Hellfire: Fixed Single Player. Theres some quirks that aren't documented. I'm surprised there really isn't a real website for this mod.
About 3 uniques get dropped a lvl. When I open a chest the stuff the items that come out will fall anywhere in the level. I was also curious if they fixed the hellfire Mana Shield bug, where less damage is absorbed by the spell at higher levels.
are you using vista? I've had that same problem since I installed HF on my laptop, in regulation HF and in mods. I haven't found a work around. I just can't make MP chars.
I haven't tried making them on my old desktop in XP and then copying the files over to my hellfire folder. If that worked it would be cool; I could just make one of each at level 1 and put them into a file here that anyone could download.
As for the other issues, you've got some bugs. I've never seen chest items drop other than right beside the chest. HF v1.01 is equivalent to D1 v1.06, and at that point the mana shield bug had been fixed, I believe. I believe jarulf's says that harmony works as well, but I certainly don't notice it on a mage. Seems like eternal hit recovery with or without that property.
Yes, I'm using Vista.
I had two guys in hell drop the same unique back to back in single player... i thought that wasn't possible. I'm wondering how many new bugs Hellfire: Fixed caused. It seems like gold is much more abundant too.
After I graduate in a couple weeks, maybe ill make a hellfire: fixed website with all the uniques since there isn't one.
The same unique can be dropped multiple times in a game if it is the only unique of that base type and qlvl range. If you have multiple uniques of the same base type and qlvl range, then subsequent uniques of that base type dropped will be the later types of uniques, which I believe only works in Single Player (so you can never find Lightforge in multiplayer).
As for not being able to create MP chars in Vista, at a guess I would say it is because Diablo uses IPX networking, which is not present in standard Vista. Try googling around for that and you might get some luck, otherwise this is the sort of issue that Blizzard will need to fix in a vista-specific patch, and I wouldn't hold my breath, which is a shame.
Windows 7 has just been announced to contain a windows XP service pack 3 virtual machine, so it is possible that Diablo will work better on Windows 7 than it does on Vista.
