The major news is that he has the cube! I cubed up all the rejuv potions I had been saving, so I have quite a few full rejuvs now. I don't think I will cube gems until I need them so as to have maximum flexibility with recipes and so forth. I have also been collecting jewelry -- I have saved every piece I have found since I began playing -- but I think I will wait to cube it up until somewhere in the mid-30s. I was looking at the affix calculator and it looks like I will have better chances of finding something useful if I wait until then.

Quick update:
I found a 3os Long Sword, and I am not sure what to put in it. I have no jewels at the moment (are those only in the expansion?), and enough gems to make the following:
1 Standard Topaz
2 Standard Skulls
1 Standard Sapphire
1 Standard Ruby
1 Flawless Emerald
1 Standard Diamond
1 Standard Amethyst
Do you think I could stick a few of those in it (say, the topaz/sapphire/ruby) and call it good? Or should I hold off until I increase my gem collection and find a socketed war sword?
if i were you i'd hold off... but if you need some killing speed to help your game, then stick ruby/saph in it
i'd save the topaz for MF and the skulls won't do much good with low physical damage
(actually i'd try to shop a good magical sword or find a good rare one)

still wearing that MF equipment, so wolfy can't feral rage non-stop (/feed) without mana problems just yet, saving it for the harder guys and mob surrounds
it's basically charging up the red spinning orb before going into normal attack-mode to conserve mana
found useless greens and yellows by the busloads with a few useless golden ones inbetween... i kept angelic halo rings for hope of completing the AR twosome sometime in the future, also kept sander's taboo as my druid can actually wear that
we had no trouble basically as long as we packed everything into formation, when the imps flame-throwed wolfy's low fire res-ed belly he did some 'feeding' to get back in shape
even though fire was my weakness, somehow nihlathak's arctic blast hurt much more than his CE, but wolfy chewed him up in the end
the ancients were kind enough to return to their fleshy selves for the brief picnic the pack was seeking after the long climb
...i noticed buff guys with swords seem to have troubledecapitating anything below their waist
before entering the throne room HalfStarved decided the upcoming meal could be a bit hard to come by, so he finally got his one point into the 'Hunger' skill to make sure he doesn't bite off more than he can chew
sure enough now he could use non-stop feral rage with MF-equipment on... after charging up the red spinning ball all it took was two quick bites with 'Hunger' to fill both bulbs (mana and health) from one-third to full
now he could come out from behind his two meat shields to tank blue guys with wings and red guys without wings
imagine that!
he's still n00b and so, when it came to the real deal, the spirit shows him HOW to tank
there's two things i'll never attempt again with another HC character after this first one.
one of them is taking on lister's pack full force on players 8
as you can see, the druid was over-confident about finishing this meal and abandoned the well-though out plan of luring lister's minions away one by one
the other one is saying "how bad can baal be after i beat lister" and taking the puke-happy demon on at players 8 too!
he takes too damn long to bring down... hunger isn't gonna save your mana supply if you can't avoid his mana rift
and you need a lot of mana fast and regularly to keep the feeding orb spinning/ recast your minions that he swipes off in two to three areal attacks
too bad formation doesn't work its magic against teleporting, cloning, walking, talking (, vomitting) ... food
after a long and hard meal the members of the pack explicitly had to look away from the vomit to avoid upsetting their stomachs i like a bit of cold damage on all my chars for the minimal chance it provides to shatter the damn thing before it starts puking
the drop was crap and isn't worth mentioning (except for a 108 ed 8 ll rare large axe which is a candidate for upping and twinking other druids)
after the expensive meal (baal had to be served with a side dish of five full rejuvs!), wolfy decided to get some fast beef burgers before moving on to nightmare. to make sure they don't join in the fight while he's hunger/feral raging (bye bye normal attack, might need ya again for the undead part of d2), he sent his two less hungry subordinates chasing for something by the name of "wild goose" or something...
cowing also provided me with my best rune up until this point

My update:
Axis bashed through Maggot lair without trouble. Managed to pump dexterity with charms he find earlier, so I upped his Military pick into Crowbill: now killing is much, much faster (155% ED). This kind of situations presented no trouble for him. He also easily killed every enemy when merc stucked behind corner (and he did that often
)
Managed to find Tancerd Crowbill, which is actually Military pick.. I can use it with hobnails I found before, but no thanx.
Also found my first exceptional unique. Yep, can't use it.
