Patriarch Dervish - An Immortal King Whirlwind Barbarian

Patriarch Dervish - Immortal King Whirlwind Barbarian:

The name is pretty basic, Whirling Dervish...hence Dervish for a Whirly Barb He was boring to level, but once the Full Set came on and I got a bit more used to whirling, game over. He's fun and has a great Countess map (40-45 sec runs with 3-5 boss packs per run as well). I'm planning 500 Countess runs with him and from there retirement.

    Stats Stats in Full IK

    Ahsab, A2 Might:

    Equipment:

    - Vampire Gaze
    - "Fortitude" Archon Plate

Thanks to Fabian for the Fortitude - Just a plain jane merc, he didn't have to do much.

    Gameplay

Normal played P8 most with 1.09 Raven Claw and/or Crushflange - Full Sigon's. Easy Peasy...

NM played P8 until A3, and then P3 to get done with the difficulty. Ribcracker (285%) / Windhammer and switching in Duriel's Shell, and Final gear as levels progressed. It was boring and I contemplated quitting him all together. 3 IM deaths in the CS (I was so bored and didn't care just tried to power thru as fast as possible)

Hell played P1. Started around Level 70. Ran Countess (Lum on Quest) (See above about map) until Level 76 and then put on Full Set and he began to be fun. I guess I got the hang of him after putting the set on him. It pretty much went Switch, Buff, Switch, Whirl/Conc, rinse, repeat. No deaths or near death experiences, the Chaos Sanctuary was a slow crawl due to tons of OKs, but Bezerk and Rejuv Pots (20+) were enough to handle them. Diablo was a breeze, Act 5 was a joke, Ancients spawned very easy, and Baal and his minions were no match. Baal left his normal junk and Dervish was given his Patriarch label!

The IK set does a great job of keeping you alive, the leech for both mana and life is excellent and as long as you stay away from IM, you are pretty much Immortal.

    Finds

    - Hellforges: Ral / Hel / Lem
    - Items: Pelta Lunata, Pluckeye x2, 199% Buriza, 197% Duriels, Lem x 2 from Countess runs

    Future

Dervish will be seen in the Black Marsh and Forgotten Tower for the next month or so (depends on how quickly I finish my Pindlethon runs) I'm sure the Countess will be sick of getting smacked in the head by the Whirling Dervish.

    Thank you for reading!

    Cheers,
    Rummski

Very cool. I'd like to make an IK barb. Maybe I will.

    Very nice indeed...
I hate using any top end gear on IK barbarians though! It just seems unjust to the beauty of ripping the game apart with a set which is, in general, under-rated when you're using fortitudes and the like :P

Like I said though, nice barb

Gratz on the Pat! But why so much dexterity? I'm sure the tiny AR from it would be easily replaced by a charm or two.

    Congrats

I just found my IK armor so I guess I'll be making one of these guys soon. Though I am a bit discouraged that you found him to be boring until level 76... hmm, I hope I can stick with him.

@ Darkooo - Thanks hopefully an IST is in the wings...

@ Zelator - Actually that's exactly why I put so much in Dex, I didn't have any more charms I wanted to use and wanted to see 10K AR so I just pumped Dex. With BO life is not a problem. A no vitality IK would be viable in my opinion, at least after level 76.

@ Caly - Don't be too discouraged, I think it had more to do with coming from the pwnage of a Poisonmancer to the slightly lower killing speed of whirlwind. It was definitely worth staying with him though. Full IK was powerful.

Congrats on the IK barbarian. I also have one and I really like/liked him.I baaled myself to 76 instead of going to hell without the full set. If you wanted AR then you should have used the angelic combo. In the end my IK dude got over 10k. It's not like the soj or saracen would be missed

Re: Patriarch Dervish - An Immortal King Whirlwind Barbarian

Nice Barb. I just pat'd my IK barb not too long ago as well. I used metalgrid (27), a dual leach ring and a ravenfrost on him. I used 2 shael's in the maul as well but went with pure damage jewels in the helm(+78%) and the armor has an empty socket still. I didn't see the need to pop on any res charms as his resistances are maxed without them.

Your right about him being just so-so until the full set gets on him. I don't have a fort to throw on a merc (mine had duriel's, vampgaze, and a reaper's toll), so I had to do all the work myself, but the decrep works for what I do.

Anyway, nice write up and glad to see you have a use for him for a little while at least.
